I was more amused at Rodgers complaining about "two clear penalties' not given when Dembele made 2 excellent challenges. That said, you were hard done to on Spurs' second goal, as Dempsey went down under minimal if any contact. Great OG from Bale though.

Totally agree. Also, looking at it from another angle, it would also mean teams who have an isolated standout season ending up in the pot and likely being whipping boys. Fulham and Newcastle in recent years have finished inside the top 7 and then struggled the next year, the supposed premier european competition is not the place for them on the back of one good season.

And that's assuming qualification would be on the basis of league position. If the Europa League is to make way for it we may well still see the cup and Intertoto routes into it, which offers a frightening thought: Stoke in the Champion's League. Are the likes of Dean Whitehead and Robert Huth kicking lumps out Xavi and Lionel Messi, punctuated by Rory Delap long throws really what we want to be seeing in Europe's elite club competition?

Platini draws most of his support from the smaller countries and will want make sure that any new competition is organised so as to guarantee the traditional EL clubs a minimum of 6 games and the chance to play barcelona.

They do need to do something about the EL. It just involves too much effort to win it compared to the prestige it generates. If Liverpool were to win it they would play the equivalent of half a league season. Compare that to the number of games required to win the FA cup, the extra travelling and midweek games involved and its not surprising its so unpopular.

Great game at Goodison last night but the ref Michael Oliver was awful. I know Moyes said about the penalty which tbh I don't think was but other bizarre decisions where Wilshere, Carzola, Arteta would just throw themselves to the floor and get a free kick.

Its amazing what is given as a free kick these days. What ever happened to a good strong challenge?!

Rumours that Jelavic and Mirallas have had a fall out and Jelavic is off in January. I hope its not true but last night I saw at least four different Everton players have a go/ argument with Jelavic at some point so you never know.

And so you aim towards the sky,

Fly away, Far away,
Far from pain....

I've not heard that rumour, but saw similar on Saturday in the Norwich game, where Baines gave Jelavic a proper mouthful, which I wouldn't have Baines down for normally.

It'd be a shame if he did go, but at the same time, he has begun to show traits of Yakubu in recent weeks - He was another who started off like a house on fire, but gradually turned into a lazyarse....Jelavic is looking similar.

I suppose if he did go in January, we could demand a decent fee, which might not be the case if he was to deteriorate in the way that the Yak did.

that will leave them a goalscorer short - maybe Moysie will go in for Bent ?

I'd much prefer a rejuvenated Jelavic, but if we needed to replace him, then Bent wouldn't be a bad call....He's proven (sort of) at Premier level and would probably be able to play the lone striker role that Moyes seems intent on continually playing.

I think most THFC fans liked Bent and were bewildered when he was sold - I suppose 'Arry telling the world his missus could have scored from that attempt didn't help but getting rid of Bent and bringing in the likes of Crouch was a bad move IMO - Bent is a goalscorer but he seems to rub his managers up the wrong way - he will be moving so why not to Goodison if Jelavic is sold ?

He rubs managers up because he's a pretty dumb player to be honest. Whenever we've played against teams with Bent in, you always notice how much he lacks awareness without the ball. He can score when the chances come and he's gifted physically, but for me he doesn't do enough outside of the box or when his side are defending. He's one of those players that you can find very hard to dislike because he's solely reliant upon service, so if he doesn't get it, you can blame other players, but he is a pretty limited player that would never have got by at a top club because his game isn't rounded enough.

yeah, sounds like a fair assessment RB - didn't he rub the Villa fans up the wrong way also when he decided to go shopping in town on the saturday of a game (during the game) when he was out injured ?

I reckon though that with good support from the likes of Baines & Fellaini etc he could do a job at Goodison
