Just to bring up the POTY debate. Is this the one decided in January?
Anyway, I was having this debate with a lad in work the other day. Would it work if we adopted a similar approach as the Americans to end of season awards?
By that I mean, a 'defensive player of the year' award. A 'sixth/twelth man' award, if you will, for the best squad player, (admittedly, this award is pretty meaningless in football, as the role of the bench is far more important in basketball.) Still, I think we could add our own spin on a few awards, whilst more emphasis on the POTY/MVP would make it an award for the most in-form and talented player. For example, Scott Parker is a hard working lad who's tried his nuts off, but let's be honest, he's nowhere near the best player in the league, his form hasn't merited that praise and WHU have been woeful, which should be considered in these votes. Effectively, winners should only be considered from the top/competitve sides.
Still, I've not watched enough of everybody to make a proper judgement on who should win it, but I simply can't consider a player from relegation fodder.
