Re: Football Chat Thread PART II : Thu Jul 25, 2013 8:44 pm

The Dutch fitness specialist Raymond Verheijen has criticised the training methods of David Moyes, who claimed to have "overtrained" Robin van Persie "to build up his fitness". Though Moyes may simply have meant that Van Persie had been worked hard in Manchester United training sessions, Verheijen, who has been employed with Wales, Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City, was unhappy.

Through his Twitter account, he observed that Van Persie had been withdrawn with muscle tightness in his thigh during United's friendly in Japan, inferring it to be a consequence of the fitness work he had done in the preceding days.

"The only way to solve this problem in Jurassic Park is to improve education of these dinosaur coaches, fitness clowns & scientific cowboys," he wrote. "All over the world in preseason you see the pattern overtraining-fatigue-injuries'. Always avoid accumulation of fatigue in pre-season."

And Verheijen was dubious as to football's ability to align with his recommendations. "As long as most dinosaurs are still in denial and ignore how things develop in other countries, nothing will ever change," he said. "Obviously, players like RVP should learn to protect themselves better against 'overtraining'."

However, Van Persie is expected to be fit for United's game against Cerezo Osaka. "It was just a precaution," explained Moyes in his pre-match press conference on Thursday. "I expect he will play tomorrow."

Fifa vice-president Jim Boyce has called on the Premier League to drop their opposition to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar being switched to winter.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter said he is determined to move the tournament to avoid the intense summer heat.

But the Premier League are opposed to a move as it would cause major disruptions to the fixture calendar.

"A sensible decision has to be made," Boyce told the BBC. "I would appeal to people in the Premier League."

Pay back your bungs and move the World Cup to an appropriate country. That's the most sensible suggestion.

I hope this becomes a club v country issue and the clubs beat the hell out of international competition.

Yeah, if only someone had thought about that at the time

Liverpool FC and their fans were still blaming the FA and the media for their bias when Suarez got his last ban.

Whereas I was fuming and wishing that he would just f**k off away from our club.

Lord God Jose Mourinho wrote:
It was never about the English media. But because he thought he was probably going to Spain he decided to put his "persecution" from the media as his reason for going.

I think the media played some part in it, but it's still a p**s poor excuse regardless. I understand in a small way where he is coming from, as for instance when he dives, it's headline news and people call for 3 match bans (like that idiot Tony Pulis), yet when players like Gareth Bale & Ashley Young do it, there is hardly an issue and it doesn't make as much news as Suarez. Still, he brought it on himself with his other antics.

Lord God Jose Mourinho wrote:
The problem for him is that he opened his mouth about moving and made it so that he really has to move away.

He's opened his mouth a lot recently, hence the reason why I have stopped listening to him. I'm getting bored of his whining now.

Rooney doesn't come across as someone who will be able to live and work in a non-English environment.

I don't know, things have changed. Ian Rush struggled in Italy, but since footballers are now pampered beyond belief, i'm sure he wouldn't have an issue playing abroad.

Lord God Jose Mourinho wrote:
I think you should bring Torres back.

He wouldn't be the same player he was before he left for Chelsea. Plus whether some of our fans would want him back is another question.

But judging from the outside you are (were) in a very small minority of scousers wanting him out. The club and the majority of the fans are desperate for him to stay.

I think the media played some part in it, but it's still a p**s poor excuse regardless. That's a bad example. Pulis's team are the worst offenders for playing rugby in the box. Pulis is always banging on trying to make out out that it's players diving when usually against them it's because the players has just been thrown to the ground by the Stoke player.

Pulis highlighted Suarez as a diver in the week before your game. Suarez then committed one of the most comically pathetic dives during the game with no one near him.

There are other divers, but Suarez gets it more because he's a serial offender of most offences.

He's opened his mouth a lot recently, hence the reason why I have stopped listening to him. I'm getting bored of his whining now.

He's always been a source of ridiculous quotes. It's only fairly new that he's been talking about leaving.

I don't know, things have changed. Ian Rush struggled in Italy, but since footballers are now pampered beyond belief, i'm sure he wouldn't have an issue playing abroad.

The money is outrageous now, but it was still outrageous when Rush went to Juve. That's why he went there. He could have easily sorted out his own assistants to help him and his family settle. He didn't because he was a dumb Brit abroad. Rush comes across as Einstein next to Rooney.

He wouldn't be the same player he was before he left for Chelsea. Plus whether some of our fans would want him back is another question.

It was a joke. I just want him out. I think he's done. He's the modern Robert Fleck. I trust Jose to do a lot of things at Chelsea, but I think making Torres perform is beyond even Jose.

Let's face it Suarez is a nugget. He's like a discount Diego Maradona with 2/3 of the ability.

Maradona 34 goals in 91 internationals.
Messi 35 in 82.
Suarez 35 in 69.

Not sure what that means entirely, but it's an impressive haul from Suarez.

Maradona was much more mental off the pitch, and slightly less mental on it.

Looking at the records of the three players I'm happy saying Suarez is 2/3 the ability of Messi, but it's harder to compare Suarez and Maradona.

Maradona shone at international level by winning the WC, losing in the final of another. He also disgraced himself in his first and last World Cups. His club career though was underwhelming.

Messi's club career pees, poops and vomits all over the club careers of Maradona and Suarez combined.

Suarez needs to reject Arsenal and move to a mega club where he can shine.
