All this booking for taking shirts off stuff is rubbish. Why does a player feel the urge to do it? It stinks of rapant egotism. If they want to promote a cause then why not get out there and support it in the same way that the likes of Ferdinand and others do with racism. Fowler could just have well dedicated his goal to the dockers in a post match interview. There is no need to take your shirt off when celebrating and it's a fashion craze rather than a true emotional outpouring because if it was the latter participants in other sports would have done it too.
Taking your shirt off when celebrating is generally a banal and unimaginative way of celebrating. Bring back Mick Channon's windwill!
Honestly now, I have never seen or heard of Ferdinand's work with racism. Maybe I'm ignorant or just unfortunate, but if Rio scored tomorrow night and raised his shirt to show another saying 'Kick it out' or something, I'd definitely get the message more. Maybe it is egotism, but, at the same time, it's the moment when the limelight is completely on you, and is definitely the best way to get your message/point/feelings across.
