The ball is heading that way originally. Before Alves can trap it or pass it or whatever, some thuggish centre half piles in with his foot well high so he pulls away so his leg doesn't potentially get snapped. The ball carries on in the same direction as it was doing. Alves' rolling around on the ground was ridiculous but was only the same as Pepe's was minutes earlier. All as bad as one another.

Not 100% certain, but about 70%. Didn't Alves kick the ball at Pepe? It looked to me (thinking back to last night's replays) that Alves just got the ball before him, but Alves went in to play the ball, Pepe went in with his studs up. When you have the history of Pepe, it's hard to believe it wasn't intentional, because he's a snide player like that.


On another note, is there a better sight/sound than Jose Mourinho getting beat? This is a man claiming he'd be embarrassed if he won the '09 CL in the way Barca did, yet his Inter side scored a blatantly offside goal in the first leg, and Barca didn't receive a clear-cut penalty in the first leg. I never once heard him say he was embarrassed of the win. Of course people will claim it as 'mind games' or genius Mourinho with the 'us vs. them attitude', but I just think it's desperate lunacy to hide that he can't publicly accept that somebody else is superior, despite his tactics during every meeting showing otherwise.

Alves never touched the ball. Pepe just managed to knock the ball before he cleared it downfield. It was blatantly not a late challenge from Pepe in the way that it's been described on here.

There was a better sound that Mourinho getting beat. It was Bentiez ranting on right before his side imploded and threw away their title chances.

When the going gets tough for Barca, they consistently gets massively favourable decisions from refs. Now I agree that Inter got a favourable decision last year against us when Kalou was fouled in the box and the ref was checking out the bird in the stands, but it's still nowhere near the constant stream of helping hands that Barca get.

Benitez was funnier, all his interviews afterwards when he went red faced and nearly started crying were also funny.

Purely out of curiousity, I'm hoping none of the Madrid players get themselves sent off and Barça edge it just to see Mourinho's reaction and opinion post-match.

Something like 78% of Marca readers thought it was a red card and significant sections of the Madrid based press are starting to turn on Mourinho (although I'm not sure how long that will last). There were so many players who seemed to think they were in a theatre rather than a football stadium last night but special mentions must go to Sergi Busquets, Marcelo, Pedro and David Villa.
