What is strange about it?

Hodgson is signing a player he trusts in that position and one he knows will slot straight into the position without needing to settle

Agreed. Salcido is also average, whilst Konchesky counts as home grown, which we need.

Meireles is an unexpected, but very good signing for Liverpool. If Hodgson can sign a decent striker to add to Konchesky (not brilliant player, but a player that Hodgson seems to work well with) and Meireles then they may have a reasonable squad to compete for the top 4 / top 6. According to SSN, they're being linked with Carlton Cole. Decent player, but depends how much they can get him for. I wouldn't want to pay over the odds for a player who will be back up to Torres.
