Has Bent gone to Liverpool? I've been travelling most of the day but have just read it's already gone through. Excellent signing in my opinion.

Never heard a thing about this 'til I just got a retweet on my home screen. That retweet just so happened to be dismissing the rumour (think it was Tony Evans dismissing it on behalf of Tony Barrett, or that's the impression I got of it). Barrett's about as good as it gets for Liverpool transfers, at least in terms of English based journo's, so if he denies it, I'll happily take his word over anybody else but Kenny/players/staff and the official site.

My opinion on Bent is a mixed one. You can't knock his record, but you can knock his pedigree. He's been around for years but no 'big club' have took a punt on him, largely because he's never had 'big club potential'. Bent's natural speed, 'size' and finishing ability have always meant he's got goals at this level, but he's never been the best worker and I don't think he quite understands his role 'off the ball'. i.e. He can get goals, but doesn't offer too much, whilst he doesn't quite get the goals at the level of somebody like RvN, so you generally want more than just his goals. Besides, he's nearly 28, he'd cost around £20m and his value will only go down, so I'd say no unless we could get him for around £10m. I'd prefer somebody younger, but that's just me and my 'ways'.

He's a strange one Bent. He's never international standard, but at club level his record is very good. He's in his prime, has Premier League experience and has scored over 40 goals in the last couple of seasons. Once Suarez is back Liverpool may well just need a quality finisher and for me Bent certainly fits the bill.
When Villa paid around £20m(?) for him I remember thinking they were crazy but he's performed for them. I'm guessing he's got around three years left on his contract so I can't see Villa letting him go at a loss just a year after signing him.

He's one of those players who's rated in his own league, performs in his own league but that's about as far as it goes. If I could compare him to someone, it would be Alberto Gilardino. Always had a good record, even had a spell at a big club, but he's never been good enough for the top clubs. I know it's debatable if Liverpool are a top club any more, but that's why I'd rather we went for somebody young, instead of wasting money on alleged proven talent.

Do you think Liverpool will get into the Champions League next year? If not then surely performing in his own league is all that matters.

I'm unsure where we're going. We're so inconsistent at the moment, I'm not sure if we're capable of getting a big run of wins going. Under Benitez, I always felt we'd finish strong and seal the top 4, but that's not been the case over the past couple of seasons. I think the top 2 speak for themselves, but Spurs aren't quite as great as being made out IMO, whilst Chelsea could easily end up third or seventh.

The good thing for us is our defence has generally been strong, so with that foundation built, you generally hope it's just getting the chemistry going in attack. If, come February, we can get Suarez, Bellamy and Gerrard playing most league games 'til the end of the season, we might sneak 4th, but that's a pretty big if and we'd still be dependent on Chelsea/Spurs/Arsenal struggling.

Watching the Liverpool v Newcastle game with a Liverpool supporting mate, he was at a loss to explain how you weren't top 2 (yes top two). His logic was that you had the best keeper, defence and forward in the league. 'So it's the midfield?', I asked. 'Our midfield is better than United's'. With injuries I agreed, then asked him to explain Liverpool's league position. He couldn't. I couldn't. Has it been Gerrard's absence? Is it Dalglish's signings? Is it Dalglish?
