The booking was 100% deserved. I was livid with Ivanovic for doing that so early in the game.

But for the rest of the game Rooney and Giggs spent half their creative energy trying to get Ivanovic booked. Some of the time there had been a foul, but a nothing foul that happens 50 times a games. Rooney would then be rolling round like he had a broken leg and Giggs would be there insisting he was booked for it.

And in the second half Rooney really gave himself away with what he was doing. He went down like he'd been hit with a sniper, instantly realised that he hadn't been touched so got up straight away as if nothing had happened.

If Didier Drogba had done what Rooney had done, then he'd have been getting massive abuse from 70,000 United fans. There'd be newspaper debates over the cheating. But because it's Rooney and United, the only response is silence.

Agreed, IMO Rooney should never play for England, he's a disgrace the way he plays the game. Not fit to wear the Three Lions. :NAUGHTY:

aye - nothing happens with Rooney, Ofcom today threw out complaints about his language in the WHU game, 'barely audible', ofcom are a bunch of conservative do gooders, yet they thought it was something and nothing, however because it's Rooney and United the f.ckwittted FA dish out a ban.

Nice handball by lampard (not dissimilar to the one given against carrick at the bridge a couple of years ago) - still United get all the decisions all of the time

The Lampard handball was a 100% penalty. You simply can't go down with your arm in the air like that. We were very lucky to get away with that.

There is a world of difference between footballers swearing and a FOOTBALLER GOING OUT OF HIS WAY TO SWEAR DIRECTLY INTO THE CAMERA. I know you United fans are a bit thick, but even you are making a special effort to build that up to something it isn't. For ofcom, the swearing was nothing that isn't in 10,000 TV shows. They won't care about the incident. But the FA are dealing with something completely different.

The FA have to clamp down on this or every stupid footballer in the league will be swearing directly into the camera and there will be nothing they can do about it. In an ideal world any swearing by a player towards a ref would result in an immediate red. Unfortunately that would decimate the game and we can't go back to that. But we can stop a problem from escalating more. Which is why Rooney was punished for crossing a line pretty much no one else has. No matter how much squealing you want to do when Daglish is caught swearing at Wenger by the camera.

I think we have definitely edged the ref decisions in the league in the last few years. But it is only edging. You've edged the decisions in the CL. I'm biased, of course, but I think the decisions you've got in the CL far outweigh the decisions we've had in the league.

But the way you United fans whine, you'd think that you've never had a decision i your favour in the history of the club. You really are turning into scousers.

We're discussing issues surrounding the match. This is part of what the thread is for.

I have taken the defeat on the chin. The biggest issue for me from the game was the lame performance we put in when we needed it - again. But that's a CFC issue and no one here will care about that.

But the issue of Man United emulating Barca with their cycnical cheating is a wider issue, and there's obviously a bunch of United fans on here to debate with over this.

Now, my personal opinion is that gamesmanship is a part of the game and no less cheating that kicking a player into the air. But English football fans haven't agreed with that. They see diving and feigning injury as something disgusting and to be driven from the game. Well, that was when Drogba and Ronaldo were the ones doing it. But when it's from Rooney and Giggs it's somehow ignored.

You brought up ofcom's ruling to try and diminish what Rooney did. You were pretty much saying, "Ofcom found nothing in what Rooney did, so the FA were wrong to punish him."

Now you're trying to say that what Rooney did WAS serious. So do you think Ofcom should have done something?

I'd guess that while the complaint may have been about Rooney swearing on TV, the actual complaint would have been against Sky for broadcasting it. Ofcom pretty much said they aren't going to punish Sky for such a trivial breach.
