I don't know what Shawcross did last season. I don't know whether he is a snide player, as I've read since this incident.
IMO the only thing to judge on is this incident. IMO in this incident Shawcross did pretty much nothing wrong. The fouls Shawcross has done in the past, the incident he was involved with in mid-week have no bearing on what happened with Ramsey.
I read an article a while back which said something like the myopia surrounding Wenger isn't from him, it's from "football fans" who go off on one whenever there is an incident surrounding Arsenal, usually attributing comments to him that he hasn't even made. He says a tackle is "unacceptable" and apparently this means everyone's sympathies should be with Shawcross. Odd, but then again I long ago realised that 95% of "football fans" are idiots.
People are rightly sick of Wenger's castigation of opposition players committing bad fouls when he refuses to acknowledge the bad fouls that his side have committed.
Shawcross's challenge was not a "unacceptable" challenge. It was simply an innocuous 50/50 which he happened to lose out on and unfortunately a broken leg occurred. By labeling it as unacceptable you are attributing blame towards Shawcross, which he does not deserve.
