I think Gerrard was right to have a go. Mancini can't come out and call Rooney for trying/getting Kompany sent off, then come out and do the same thing himself. He done a similar thing at Anfield with the invisible card, pleading with the ref to send off Skrtel, yet the moment Rooney done it, bang, it's wrong. Whether Mancini was right to do it or not is irrelevant, because he comes out and criticises Rooney for doing it, he's instantly saying it's wrong for somebody to do that, so for him to turn around and do it smacks of double standards.
Of course its double standards, but then again, so are the rules of the game, if one day a player can be sent off and receive a 4 match ban and the next, nothing happens.
I dislike the imaginary red card waving, but I can just about accept last night's moan from Mancini, which I can imagine was highly influenced from a supposed injustice.

The rules of the game are pathetic, beyond pathetic. How many players fell wrath to the great 'Respect' campaign? You know, the one Mascherano felt the wrath of. Has the game really progressed in terms of respecting officials? IMO, it's probably at an all-time low and continues to get lower.
Mancini was right in what he said, of course he was, every Citeh fan will say the same and even Liverpool fans will say "How can Johnson not walk for that, but Spearing did against Fulham". The rules are a disgrace, they leave far too much open for interpretation. Without technology, referees have an almost impossible job on their hands. The FA should be ashamed of themselves for letting it happen, but they aren't bothered, they continue to let things go on, it's embarrassing.
Even if Mancini was right about the inconsistency, he was wrong to criticise Rooney for getting Kompany sent off. Because he done that, he left himself wide open for criticism the next time he believes something is worthy of a red, as he then goes against his own actions and appeals for a red.
I really don't understand what the problem is with regards to Liverpool and the league cup. Our fans aren't getting overly excited, we're chuffed because we beaten City away, arguably the best side in the country. What competition results like that happen in barely matter, Mancini wanted to win the match and so did Dalgish, there's still another leg but to say Liverpool should just dismiss the competition is silly. We're not in Europe, the FA cup is in the early rounds and we're in a 'decent' position to finish 4th, which was what I was hoping for at best. If we can win the League cup or the FA cup along the way, then why shouldn't a Liverpool fan be happy, especially given the turmoil the club's been in over the years?
Me personally, I don't care too much about the competition. I like to see us win every game so I'd obviously like to see us win it, but if we don't, no biggie, it's not a major competition. I view it in a similar light to the FA cup, a domestic cup that gets in the way, if you can win it without hindering your performances in other competitions, brilliant.
To be fair to Liverpoo (can't believe I've actually written that!!) if you get to the sembo's of any cup at all then you should be trying and wanting to win it. If City or Nited (or both) get to the sembo's of the Europa League then I would have thought they would be trying and wanting to win it. I don't think too many Liverpoo fans have got overly giddy about winning it and neither did the vast majority of Nited fans when we won it. It's always nice to win things and be in finals, even more so when you haven't been to Wembley in years and years
Keep it up lad. Your bitterness is shining right through. No suprise that the Mancs regard this as a "nothing throphy" this season after being knocked out by an average Championship side.
In 2009 and 2010, it's was the dog's dangleys. Class.

winning anything is 'nice'
i think for United over the last 20 years, Arsenal when they used to win stuff, and Chelsea over most of the last few years, if they came out of the season having just won the coca carling worthingtons cup, it would be not deemed a great season, but better than nothing. I think it's still some way behind the FA Cup but both are some way behind the PL, CL and even CL qualification which have to be the priorities for United / Chelsea
David Moyes has officially gone insane. The club have 2 fit centre backs at the moment, one of whom is preferred in midfield. We have only one striker in Saha that Moyes will risk playing. And he goes and spends a few million on Darren Gibson. I don't think he's as bad a player as he is made out to be, but midfield is so far down the list in terms of areas to strengthen.
What about a striker or defender? Gibson signing also means we won't see much of Ross Barkley which is such a shame.

I'm made up with that signing I've heard that Everton have paid around a million. If that's true then United obviously wanted rid and have done well to get that amount for a decidedly average player with only six months left on his contract. Just four of Darron Gibson's last 28 shots in the Premier League have been on target, with none of them resulting in goals.

The stiffs got us through most of the rounds, local pride made Fergie shut the neighbours up. Only really played a proper team if we got to the semi's. Liverpool have put all their eggs in the basket from the start. To be honest, it's the kind of trophy they should be looking at. Don't play european football, have a chance at Europa through finishing 5th or 6th and should have a chance at the FA cup should they pull off a giant killing and knock us out. That's the romance of the FA cup, the mid-table sides can get themselves up for a few games and get a sniff at a final. Cardiff, Portsmouth are just two of these lesser clubs that have done it recently. Show's it can be done, gives Liverpool a great chance for thei first silverware of the decade and first appearance at Wembley since 1996.
