LFC's version of events is that Evra lied, the FA stitched them up, the FA's process was wrong. How can they make an apology given that's Liverpool's version of events?

I take your point, but don't think they are doing themselves any favours at all, even Ian Ayre's piece last week had the predictable air of 'victim' about it.

IMO, diving should be a red card offence, but the problem with diving is identifying whether it's a dive, an attempt to avoid contact and whether there is contact. For that to be an on-field red card would require video evidence. Even then, it would be very much a matter of opinion. For things like diving, it should probably dealt with after the game, but the FA are 'behind refs' so won't do anything in their own time. With handballs, it's much easier to find an intentional handball compared to a ball to hand. Last night was a clear intentional handball, that denied City the opportunity to have their striker break down field against only a goalkeeper, for me, it was a clear red, the distance from goal was irrelevant as there was nobody occupying that space.

I hear what you're saying but I can see why the distance to the goal determines the issuing of the colour of the card because it is an intangible where the normal laws of the game don't normally apply i.e. the greater the distance the less likely you are for the norm to occur. What I mean is that over 10m there's less room for error/disruption to the goal scoring chance which increases the likelihood that a player would have had a goal scoring opportunity. Over 40m there becomes greater room for error/disruption e.g. too slow, falling over, heavy touch. I'm guessing you're saying that's irrelevant but I'm not so sure. Like we've compared with RL, falling over the line is one thing, running 30m to an open ball with defenders around is another.

I don't think it was as clear cut enough for the vast majority to say the player was denied a goal scoring opportunity especially given Kun's general hovering around demeanour at the time of the play, as opposed to him applying pressure to get the ball.

If the push in the back on Welbeck 4 yards from goal when clean through vs Bolton wasn't a red card then you are never going to see one for a handball on the halfway line.
