I don't fully understand the huge Liverpool love fest. I agree that Rodgers has done very well clearing up year of extremely bad management and has the team playing the best football in the premier league. They have bought their entire regular squad apart from Flanagan, Sterling and Gerrard, most players for a huge amount. They've had the luxury of being able to play pretty much their strongest team each week with no european football to worry about, no resting players of much squad rotation. I expect them to push for top four next season, no title challenge though.

I'd even argue that the 2008/2009 tem was a much better all round team and that was the best chance for them to win the league, they were just unfortunate to run into a Ronaldo inspired United.

A special season now is done
And sadly there's no title won.
But memories of how we played
Will hold us through these summer days.
One memory for me stands out
Our captain gives a rallying shout.
Emotion strong, he tells his men
We Go Again.

Those words so heartfelt and inspired
Don't change because of what transpired.
For Stevie is a man who leads
Desiring always to succeed.
Pushing himself and those around
To always reach for higher ground.
He bottled it? Go boil your head
Support your loving team instead!
As we back ours and know that then
We Go Again.

So Chelsea came and things went wrong
And now they sing that loving song
And flood the web with endless memes
Our captain's slip, their bitter dream.
Don't let them take those words from him
As if it's ruined by what they sing.
Don't let them say he fell on his booty
And gave the ball to Demba Ba.
Because though he did, we know he slipped
And from there they were well equipped
To defend their lead, to waste our time,
To keep their deep defensive line.
We know that horrid twist of fate
Was just one game of thirty-eight
As Mourinho spouts his bitter chat.
The Special One? The "Special" lover.
I'll stick with backing Rodgers men.
We Go Again.

I'm proud of reds who backed their team
And lined the streets as they made us dream.
I'm proud of our courage and conviction
As we battered all pre-season predictions.
I'm proud that at 33-1
We oh so nearly had it won.
I'm proud of our captain and proud of his words
And proud I'll remain despite internet nerds
Who hide behind computers and type on their screens
And have no idea what that passion means.
It means that they care, that they'll fight for the club
For those in the ground and for those in the pub.
For those who support us home and away
And even the gloryhunters who turn up in May.
The importance of that passion cannot be diminished
Though our best season for years had a frustrating finish.
You'll see how it matters next season when

We Go Again.

The 08/09 team was probably a better equipped side, but this first XI play way beyond their expected levels. I wouldn't say our team cost 'huge amounts', I think people struggle to factor things like inflation. A £15m player isn't what it was 10 years ago. £25m is the new £15m, and how many £25m players have we got? Suarez, if that?

I think part of the love fest comes from the fact we were challenging Chelsea and City, two clubs that have relied solely upon foreign ownership/unjust investment to get them where they are, rather than actual quality club management. To see Liverpool, the plucky underdog, come from nowhere to standing a chance on the final day, well, I can't remember that happening before, not from a team that finished 7th the previous year anyway.

People will always hate Liverpool, they'll always hate scousers and more of the love came from the media than neutral football fans, but, even if I wasn't a fan, I can see why so many people wanted to see us win. Look at Dortmund in Germany, they rose rapidly and pushed Bayern off the top (briefly) and have become one of Europe's best club, all from quality club management. Atletico Madrid have just won the league despite playing against two absolute powerhouses, they've won it because they have a better manager and mentality than either club. They have overachieved against clubs they had no right to, and that's exactly what Liverpool have done this season. Fans will always take to the underdog, they'll always take to the team that aren't expected to compete, and that's why many have loved Dortmund over the past few years, why every neutral was roaring Atleti on today and will roar them on this time next week.

Going back to our 08/09 side. When we got the team together we played brilliantly, but Benitez's sides couldn't do what our team done to so many this year. Benitez's side couldn't maintain such offensive pressure, they didn't counter attack with menace and the flexibility wasn't there. We had to play through Alonso, to Gerrard, to Torres. This team had contributors from everywhere, what eventually cost us was we only had a couple of truly special contributors which wasn't enough.

The talk early doors is Rodgers wants quality not quantity, but for the first time since he's managed us, he's actually going to need more quantity, so I'm a little worried he's going to go for it on 3/4 players, when our lack of depth will be exposed quite easily once the group stages kick in, even more so if we make it through.

Yaya - Don't take words that don't come from my mouth seriously.
Agent - Thanks Yaya, you've made me look a right tvvat. You whined about it, you okayed me going to the press about it.
Yaya - Everything he said is true.

Toure is being a complete div. His agent is an even bigger div because he allowed Toure's childish complaint to be broadcast, when what he needed to do was slap a bit of sense into him.

I don't think Toure and his agent are any worse than many footballers. They are all deluded, spoiled children who really need to spend 5 minutes in the real world to show them how lucky they are. I just think Man City are pretty bad at letting their players loose with their stupid thoughts.
