Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

I think Chelsea will devise a system to incorporate Torres, they'll have to as they need to build the team around him. I see Carroll as a bigger problem actually, I like him a lot, but whilst he's been injured Liverpool have found form playing a very neat, on the deck, passing style of football, he will slow this down immensely, finding a way of incorporating him into a 'Liverpool' style won't be easy.

IMO, it's simple and it's something we done with Torres: we try our best to keep Carroll out of build up play, instead we use him as a focal point for the attack. Carroll will be the player that adds everything we lack physically, he'll be the aim for crosses, the one to ask the most questions of the defence, but hopefully he will benefit those around him more than he benefits himself. If he can add everything Suarez can't to the attack, it allows us to ask more questions of the opposition, which should, *should* result in us getting more wins and breaking more sides down. I think it's clear that we're after a few more wide players, it's said we're close to signing Marveaux and we tried our nuts off to get Young in January, hopefully with more 'crossers' in the side, Carroll will have more to feed off of other than long diagonals from Carra.

The reason why Torres is a bigger flop than Carroll and Dzeko is that he was bought for £50m with the intention of his arrival helping Chelsea to win the title. Of course he's bought for next year as well but the reason why he was £50m was because they wanted him now to have an instant impact otherwise they could have waited until the end of the season when his price was likely to be lower albeit perhaps more open to other bidders too.

I think when he signed Chelsea were looking like they may struggle to make the top 4, let alone win the league. The league was gone by then.

Did you bother reading the post?

Because if you had instead of flying off on a rant you'd notice I said it was a correct decision to give you that amount of time. It was also a similar circumstance to Owen's goal against City, i.e. injury time being extended to take in to account goal celebrations and time wasting but people wont stop complaining about it and Alex Fergusons "magical influence".

So let me put this into thickie terms which you might bother paying attention to: I agreed with the amount of injury time in the Liverpool Arsenal game in question.

I dont actually believe that "Fergie time" as such exists. But greater transparency would certainly avoid such arguments. I just think the RL timekeeping system is vastly superior. The sight of a ref holding is hands up to stop the clock is the best response to deliberate time wasting. It also adds drama to the end of a match when everyone can see exactly how long is left.

Neither glass half full or empty. Just a realist.

Re: Football Chat Thread : Fri May 20, 2011 7:55 am
The injury time in this country is A JOKE
I remember Man City v Wolves earlier this year
I think there was 1 booking in the whole game
Goal celebrations were at a minimum, especially when Wolves mounted a mini comeback
The physios NEVER came on the pitch in the whole game
Cue the fourth official to put the board up with 5 mins minimum injury time to be played (for the second half).
The sooner there is transparancy in football, the better. Will this ever happen. I VERY MUCH DOUBT IT.

There were 5 second half goals and 6 second half substitutions.

Correct.

We needed a new striker desperatley as Drogba/Anelka are coming to the end.
It'll be interesting what CA if hes still here will play if we sign Neymar which from reports is pretty much dead cert.
