Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

I think he is trying to adapt his game, instead of playing his natural game. He should have stayed on his line, and if needed, punch the ball way. Currently, he cannot get in their and knock people out of the way to get to the ball.

Mourinho to leave Madrid?

Obvious destinations: Utd, City, PSG (bit soon)?

I just think he signed for United a year later than he should have. If he'd have come last season he'd have been eased in as Van Der Saar's understudy, could have found his feet and got used to English football then been promoted for the 2nd season with his eyes open more to English football.

He's not the first and he won't be the last that takes a year to get to grips with English football, it's especially the case with goalkeepers, even domestic based ones have experienced that Schezeny (sic) fluffed it in the Carling Cup Final last year for example, Hart made many errors in his early City days, Gomes was a liability at Spurs.

Too many people who know a lot about football rate him that he won't be a duck egg, just patience requried. He's so young for a goalkeeper, It'll come.

It'll never happen, I'd take him back at Chelsea in a heartbeat. I'd also love to see him go to Arsenal, he'd add some steel & substance to their prettyness.

Yes, I tweeted about it a few days ago. Seems like the rumours of a dressing room split were more than just rumours. There's a good English-language account from Sid Lowe that I see LGJM has posted and that's more or less what was reported in Marca. The most telling thing for me is that sections of the Madrid media have sided with Casillas and Ramos. One leading Madrid based pundit said last night that the best thing for all concerned would be a shaking of hands between Mourinho and Perez and a summer parting of the ways.

I'd agree with most of this, however, I still find it odd that United chose to risk so much over such an unfulfilled and, potentially, non-existant talent....Goalkeepers are traditionally at their best in their 30's and many with as much promise as DeGea have fallen by the wayside - Close on 20 million seems a mighty big sum.

Its all well and good saying he looks the real deal, but for a club of United's stature and ambition, do they really want to be risking so much on what could be so little?

Taking Friedal on for nothing for a couple of years, while monitoring DeGea's development at Athletico, would have seemed a much more sensible option....Let's face it, his price wouldn't have got any significantly higher and in 2 or 3 years time you would have more of an idea of how good he really is.

Sheffield Wednesday sold out the Steel City Derby (26th Feb) after 3 days of general sale, not bad for a division 3 fixture. Not been this excited about a Sheff derby in ages! Shame it's not on TV to show Hillsborough in a good light for once.

well said

the only opinion which matters is that of Sir Alex and I don't think he will tolerate the inconsistency - he needs experience in the goal especially with so many young and inexperienced ( very good) kids thrust into the defence/midfield over the past season

I don't disagree with you, using Friedel as the example he was in the Premier League in the mid 90's, wasn't ready had to go to Turkey etc and come back a more polished goalkeeper in his late 20's/30's and is getting better & better.

I agree entirely that it's been a big 'risk' to pay a huge sum and make him your number one, when you look at it everything is against him, culture, age, goalkeepers tending to get better latter part of careers etc and without question Ferguson could have gone for pardun the pun a 'safe pair of hands' with someone proven in the Premiership like Friedel, Schwarzer etc or even a halfway house and got say a Buffon who whilst he doesn't have Premiership experience is vastly experienced but they must have seen something in De Gea.

He just looks a bit startled at the minute, jittery, call it what you will he needs to get over this, fast. If I was SAF I'd persist with him, for all the madnessm he looks capable of pulling off outstanding saves and there still could be a key moment in the season where he's the man for the job.

The worst thing you can say about DeGea is that, as a neutral, watching United with him in goal, is a much more interesting experience, as you expect a huge gaffe at just about any moment.

I think if he continues this way, a year on loan somewhere, may not be out of the question.
