Re: The Football Chat Thread : Mon Jan 30, 2012 6:25 pm
Just reading that Liverpool have had to apologise for another gaffe in the Evra saga, this time leaving a video of a fan making an alleged racist gesture at the Frenchman, during Saturday's Cup game on their website, for over 48 hours after the game.

The apology is a good thing, though I'm slightly confused by their stance that they will ban anybody from their club for life, anybody who is found guilty of a racist offence.....Now didn't Mr Suarez get found guilty??.... :?

Big world of difference between banning a customer and terminating an employee. You have rights, obligations and duties towards your employees in such situations. I daresay you could argue the same for the supporter but it's understandable if they choose a less flexible approach in this area.

You don't need to be a genius to figure out why he was made-up Evra made a mistake, he clearly thinks Suarez is innocent and Evra is a lying blacky or something. There was a brilliant picture on the BBC site of Evra taking a throw, and nearly all the Liverpool fans behind him had these horrible twisted faces of hatred or were booing. And yes, players get booed and abused all the time, but again, even thicko's such as yourself don't need telling WHY Evra was getting sh*t on Saturday.

Maybe our fans were wrong to direct their anger at Evra, but I don't think Liverpool fans should be condemned for being angry. It was obvious Evra was going to get grief either way, just like Suarez will at Old Trafford, just like he would have if he was found guilty. That's football.

The supporter is dispensible, Suarez isn't....Simple as.

Its not very subtle hypocrisy.

Evra being booed because he's a victim of racism

Suarez will be booed because he's been found guilty of racism

World of difference, I don't think anyone expected different but booing victims? Deary me.

Couple of belting goals in Serie A this weekend. An inch perfect free-kick from Ibrahimovic and a peach of a strike by Genova's Rodrigo Palacios.

No he's not Dan, you are mistakenly confused with why he was booed. 1) Liverpool fans think Evra started the confrontation, lied and Suarez has been found guilty of something he never would have in a normal court. 2) Evra was kissing the Manc badge in front of the Kop last game. 3) Evra was United's captain. 4) They think Evra received massively preferential treatment from the 'committee' during the hearing.

As I said, I think our fans could be seen as wrong to direct a lot of the anger towards Evra, but who else could they aim it at? How else do they show the FA they aren't happy? It's a bit like all these absolutely thick people who think Liverpool are supporting racism, but it was always Liverpool defending our player for something he continues to deny doing. Our fans are wound up with the FA more than Evra, but he was always going to be the target of the abuse as he's the one who accused Suarez. If Suarez was found innocent, Evra would have got abuse, if Suarez was found innocent, he'd have still been branded a racist by United fans and he'd be repeatedly booed during games. It's the way of football, fans will always do it.

I've got a mate in prison for murder that he continues to deny, I defend him in every conversation I have about him, does that mean I condone murder?

Suarez admitted using the word negro, yet Evra still told the FA panel that he thought Suarez isn't a racist (according to the LFC statment).

Yet Evra still gets abuse.

Evident? How is that conclusive? A four and a half year deal could just as likely have been a necessary concession to secure Given's service.

He was the No.1 at the time aye. Quick question. Why do you think City bought Hart when they did? (he was 19). Don't you think that's it's possible that they might have regarded him as an investment for the future? When Hart came back from being on loan he beat out the Icelandic guy (who was pretty reasonable himself) to get the number one spot. He got his chance then, the club saw that he needed a bit more experience (as I've said three times now) so they went for a veteran presence whilst Hart went to learn his trade. Again he returned and came back a better keeper, good enough to keep Given out and let the club release him.

I can only assume you didn't see him at that younger age because he looked as if he had something about him then. I've seen enough young keepers coming through to see one who stands out because it doesn't happen that often in any sport. He looks to me like we've landed the best English goalkeeper since Clemence, possibly since Banks, and yes I saying that there was a twinkle there when I first saw him play which suggest he had the potential to break that tradition of poop goalies we've developed (Nigel Martyn excepted). I know he isn't there yet but the signs are more promising than with any other young English goalies that I've seen in my lifetime. Perhaps someone can help me out with somebody who showed the same amount of promise?

Yes.

He was pretty much irrelevant once we saw what Hart could do, hence him dropping to third choice quite quickly.

I think your main point is the main point in general ref De Gea, you knew early doors that Hart had immense potential but wasn't the finished article so he had a year at Brimingham, then came back and was given soon some slack first season back when back ay City, he was lucky at the time that City were aiming to finish 4th/5th so the pressure wasn't as intense with every error judged. If he was thrust back into the fold say now with City in a title race he may find it different, but he's developing nicely and looks more polished.

De Gea obviously isn't going to have the luxury of going out on loan you wouldn't think, so he's going to have to go straight to that 'give him a bit of lee-way stage' but given that it's United, you won't get that. It's not helped that he's played behind about 24 different defenders this season I don't think, a few of which aren't the best for me.

I reckon he'll come good, classic 'second seasoner' that we get in England.
