Re: The Football Chat Thread : Tue Jan 31, 2012 10:26 pm
The Everton of old tonight. So many heroes for the Blues tonight.

Denis Stracquilursi. Sign him Moysey. Ran his blood to water and played with such calmness, loads of deft touches and runs forward that relieved pressure. Donovan and Drenthe as well, willing to just run and run and run and run and run, relieving pressure so intelligently time after time.

Tony Hibbert and Johnny Mad Dog Heitinga? Utterly sensational. Hibbert looked like he was 2 foot tall tonight against Dzeko, but he was a brick wall. Heitinga was a colossus, impenetrable and unwilling to move. City could have played for four days and not scored. They could have thrown half the Barcelona squad in as well and wouldn't have scored. Compare Heitinga to Barry tonight. As ever Barry turns his back and makes a ballerina pose as Gibson lashes it into the net, in the same position Heitinga would have ran full speed with his eyes wide and a mad grin on his face and blocked it.

City were awful. They'll need more than class to win at Goodison and as the league gets to the business end they'll need more than it to win most away games. Their midfield was utterly pathetic tonight, nigh on 70% possession and they couldn't create a thing. Hibbert and Heitinga at centre back and a 2 foot advantage to Dzeko and they couldn't even get into a position to cross. Outfought, out enthused and completely lacking in spirit. Is it because it's cold perhaps? Or they just don't fancy the atmosphere and the fight? Mancini has taken the wrap for it in his post match interview, but there are a few hundred thousands dropping into bank accounts this week that haven't really been earned.

Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

Impossible, he is under contract for another 18 months.

Roysten Drenthe. Ace name. He should be a running back with a name like that.

But 12 of those 18 months are a clause United claim they have in his contract. His agent has denied that this exists. It was widely publicised around the first week in January that he is in talks with other clubs and that United are likely to only receive a few hundred thousand in 'training compensation' for him.

Love Sky Sports deadline day coverage. "Plenty happening, deals flying in, so much happening. Lets go to Rangers" "Erm, nothing happening here, they all went home at 8pm". Cuts back to studio, "Sooooo much going on now, it's flying in, last minute deals being done across the country... [Ridiculous pause]... MK Dons have signed A. N Other".

Absolutely nothing happening tonight. No major transfers and Jelavic/Cisse/Zamora the only deadline day signings to make any real money change hands.

Andy Carroll tonight, for the first time in a long time, made 'movement' in the box and he got himself a goal. Brilliant to see. Maybe he'll prove me wrong in the 'worst transfer ever' debate. Hope so.

At this point in time, you can have Moyes......He'd soon have you playing 4-5-1, with absolutely no flair or skill....You really want that?...

Yes,Spurs would take him and Mr Levy will be trying to lure him to London IMO - it's difficult to show the flair when you essentailly have carp players in due to the lack of finance

performances like that against Man City shows the guy has something - just imagine what he could do with a bank account with some money in it ?

An Everton side without Moyes would have gone down years ago...

I'm made up with that signing ;)
I've heard that Everton have paid around a million. If that's true then United obviously wanted rid and have done well to get that amount for a decidedly average player with only six months left on his contract.
Just four of Darron Gibson's last 28 shots in the Premier League have been on target, with none of them resulting in goals.

I was told by City fans that Everton away wasn't a "tough" away game, and that they're 5 point lead would be hard to catch as they'd played all their "tough" away games. Since got 1 point from Everton, Sunderland and West Brom away. Our next 2 games will be very tough. Think City still have the better finish and will probably edge it though.
