don't think Delia can afford his wages, though he would be close(ish) to Newmarket which may help sway things ?

Our slump in form started before Wilkins left.

I don't know how much he was involved in running the squad and generally don't bother to speculate. I did think it was ridiculous to get rid of the coach during the season against the wishes of the manager in mid-season, but as I didn't know the reason it was difficult to make any judgements.

TBH this was another mark against Ancelotti. Allowing his head coach to be sacked and then shrugging his shoulders saying there was nothing he could do was a huge sign of weakness. And the massive slump in form which lasted so long could have been the players losing respect for him as well.

Vintage performance by Ronaldinho against Avaí at the weekend. Good goal and a couple of cheeky 'blind' passes.

City linked with Espanyol's Jordi Amat and Lass Diarra looking to move back to England according to this morning's Spanish papers.

Not heard about the Amat link. Where's that from?

Very good player but not sure he's what City should be after if they're serious about the league and Europe.

City's recruitment this summer has two strands:

1 Recruit 2 or 3 (assuming Tevez leaves ) top class players to complete the first team;

2 Offload Adebayor, Bellamy, RSC, Given. Bellamy, Jo, Bridge, Caicedo etc and replace with younger players on lower wages. Part of the strategy to comply with FFPR. Looks like he's part of that approach.

Learning from the best...

Re: Football Chat Thread : Mon May 23, 2011 9:03 pm
Feeling stupidly positive about the coming summer, think we can pull off some decent deals. We have the crux of a good side, just need to keep hold of our better players and add to the quality already amongst our ranks.

Made our first signing today which is very pleasing to get one in early on, despite his age. Love to see us make these kind of signings though.

Was pleased firstly just to survive this first season, definitely plenty to build on eh. :) Hey have you got the new shirt mate? Gone for JONAS 18 on mine. :)

What happened to him being the most complete number 9 in the world then?

is it because he's left to go to Chelsea or has your opinion just completely changed on him

It depends what you mean, really, judging Torres' form since he's been at Chelsea, it's hard to say he's the same player he was at Liverpool. I've not made it up that he's played poorly, because he has, but I don't think he'll ever be the near unstoppable force he was for the first half of his Liverpool career. He actually began to pick up his form before he went to Chelsea, but he went back to his poor form and it's hard to believe he can still be the world's best striker.

Still, he is a good player, I would never deny that. Problem is, he's trying to regain personal form, fitness and mentality, whilst also trying to adjust to things at a club that probably didn't need him or want him (Ancelotti, not the club itself).

If Torres picks up his old form, then good for him, but I can't help but laugh whilst he isn't. Similarly with Owen, I remember him at Liverpool almost rejecting a winners medal because he felt he hadn't played a part in winning the cup with us, a few years later and he's saying things like "I forgot what it was like to win trophies" and "Just got to beat Barca to complete his career trophy haul". How can a player like that even discuss winning trophies? He is an absolute nothing player who's added nothing but another twitter account to the United dressing room. Absolutely embarrassing.
