AVB looks clueless. He's losing it too, arguing with the interviewers. Fish out of water to me!

Bit harsh to describe a guy who won three trophies in one season at Porto, including the Europa League and going through the season undefeated as "out of his depth".

Was Ferguson "out of his depth" in his early years at United, by that reckoning?

Porto is not Chelsea. Maybe Fergie was, not saying he wasn't.

My point is he is childish is press conferences, he isn't getting results, there have been so many stories this season about celebrating etc. He seems lost to me and therefore 'out of his depth'. His strength was supposed to be his tactics...i've not seen any tbh. I think Chelsea has come to soon for him.

I'm pretty sure that was the reason behind his departure from Chelsea. Can't see Abramovich letting go now.

Bobby Campbell was reported as telling Roman that anybody could manage Chelsea to the title. He was supported in that belief by a large % of the press and oppo fans.

Mourinho took most of the blame for us having bad press and a terrible relationship with UEFA. We still get a bad press and UEFA screwed us over even more over the semi with Barca.

He won the Champions League with Inter. He's probably going to win the Spanish League even though Barca are the "greatest side ever to play the game".

We are utter toilet right now. Villas Boas has shown practically nothing whatsoever this season to make anyone think that he's the man to lead us. If the players manage to get rid of him, who the hell are we going to bring in?

Abramovich's marquee signings: Andrei Shevchenko and Fernando Torres. £80m in transfer fees. At a quick guess, £50m in wages. £130m spent. Value on the field? I'd say Shevchenko made us a couple of million with his FA Cup goal against Spurs. I think Torres has a minus effect. His presence soured our relationship with Drogba and means Sturridge is having to score from the wing rather than banging them in up front.

Re: The Football Chat Thread : Mon Feb 06, 2012 2:24 pm
I read an article earlier in the season about AVB and his tactics. This isn't it but it mentions how he likes to play. The original article said that AVB likes to have his three central midfielders rotate into the Makelele role because it is a lot harder for the opposition to track/mark. This means he needs his midfielders to be skilled and flexible enough to swap which is what the original article highlighted.

The article suggested that there would need to be an overhaul of some of the midfielders and Czech (he's not considered to be the sweeper type of keeper needed for AVB's system) because what they have currently isn't suited to the game that AVB wants to play. RA must know this (they must have had conversations about AVB's plan). I can't see how RA can contemplate getting rid on that basis and I'm sure that RA must feel the same way (after all what's the point of appointing him if you're not going to give him the chance to do things his way?). Chelsea can have a season off from being first or second as long as they are planning for next year.

I'm neutral about AVB.

On the plus side, Mata's an excellent player, Luiz has great potential, last season Porto had a remarkable season. There have been a few bright spots in terms of play this season. I'd do the physio.

On the bad side, he doesn't look to have the strength to manage that squad. His handling of Alex and Anelka was appalling. He may have a beautiful sounding plan, but there's no evidence so far that he will be able to implement that plan at Chelsea. He's terrible in interviews. WTF is that crouching he does???

If Mourinho wasn't looking like being available, then I'd say we've got to give AVB 3 years and see what that time brings. But if Jose's coming back to England, we should pack Andre's bags for him. We can't take a risk on AVB and see Jose take over at either Manchester club.

Re: The Football Chat Thread : Mon Feb 06, 2012 7:01 pm
No dig at your club, LGJM, but your side looked like 'little boys, lost' , when Chelsea conceded that first pen. It was evident (to me, anyway) that United were going to come away with (at least) a point, from that moment on. Obviously missed (scumbag) Terry and Lampard, Chelsea were clearly missing a leader on the pitch.
It was almost like watching someone like Coventry City (a decade ago) taking a 3 goal lead against United, only to think "oh ####, we've made 'em angry, now", and then watch them capitulate.

On a slight aside, why has there been no media assasination of United's penalty winners (both legitmate, but a bit theatrical, but still legit), yet Adam Johnson gets called a diver by all and sundry, for winning a penalty, legitimately, but theatrically???
Double standards by our media? Never!
