I wasn't trying to knock Parker by any means, he's been a brilliant signing for Spurs. He was just as consistent for West Ham, his work rate is fantastic and he's been a key player for Tottenham this season. His MOM was fully justified last night.

true enough,he was consistent at West Ham but in a ordinary team which made him look good - difference is now he's with better players and still looks a good player which makes him a class act in my book
it's a pity he seemed to have wasted his best years at Chelsea, where he was just a number and Newcastle where he played in an average team, like West Ham.
I think Parker is the type of player EVERY fan loves to have in their team ie: a grafter ...

reminds me of a better looking version of Archie Gemmell !

thought some of the LFC lads did well like Kelly,Gerrard and Agger - as soon as Bellamy was replaced with that waste of space called Downing I knew Spurs would get the point.

anfieldcat on twitter pointed out he went past more players on his run last night than Downing has all season

FWIW, I don't think it's a sending off, I thought a yellow was about right.

I actually think half of what is wrong with football at the minute is that too much is classed as a 'sending off offence' and then you get all this letter of the law crap. I'm fine with players needing protection from bad fouls, over the years the Van Basten's etc didn't get this protection and had careers cut short which nobody wants to see, but instances like last night aren't a red for me.

We seem to have lost a foul just being a foul, now a foul is a 'yellow' almost immediately. Then referees back themselves into a corner when something marginally worse happens so it has to be a red, where if they just gave fouls for most things, they'd still have the yellow as the next step and red for the really dangerous/deliberate stuff.

Totally agree with this. It's annoying hearing every week how some things are described as 'horror' tackles or 'shocking' or 'disgusting'. Sometimes they do warrant the reaction but to me people just seem to go overboard with what they class as a bad foul.

Unfortunately gents, as Dan (a friend from work) wasn't here to see that as it was posted, the joke was lost. I'd class myself as a reasonable Liverpool fan (if you accept there are any  ) and it was a clear booking, and a careless/daft action from Suarez.

as a THFC fan a yellow card was enough - it was reckless without the malicious intent IMO - stupid challenge with the correct punishment.

must have been an entertaining game for the neutrals ?

love them or loathe them,Spurs do try to play entertaining football and with the added steel of Parker,Kaboul & Ekotto they seem a bit more solid - definitely top six material, maybe top four but not top two,yet...

You've hit the nail on the head there mate, the reason so many people are lauding him about is because he's moved into a better team, playing better football at a higher level and he's still as consistent as ever. He was always a grafter and gave everything for West Ham but he's made the step up and he's just as good if not better.

If Suarez accidentally kicked Parker then he'd deserve a yellow for that.

A deliberate kick like that and he'd deserve a straight red for it.

I'm just not seeing that as an accidental kick. He wasn't just following the ball for the volley, he gave Parker a shove as the ball was coming over.and then kicks him in the stomach. It's difficult on the clips I've seen, but it doesn't even seem like his timing is right for the volley.

Spot on....Suarez knew the ball was not coming down for him, so he lashed out in a heat-of-the-moment frustration.

I think the ref actually bottled it....It was always going to be hard for him to send Suarez off in front of the Kop, with all the focus on the 'big comeback'.

I must admit though that Dalglish's press conference behaviour and his continual defence of Suarez is becoming more and more bizarre.

Last night's defence of the attack on Parker was that 'Suarez never realised Parker was there' (or something along those lines)??.....Now, that's a good one, considering Suarez had give Parker a hefty nudge in the back just prior to him showing off his Bruce Lee impression!!

I think Kenny's 'everybody is picking on us' attitude is just making him look very silly....At times, he has to realise that he can't defend everything his players do.

 One of the worst excuses Dalglish has ever came up with this one, considering Parker had just headed the ball that Suarez was supposedly looking at him how can he not know he's there?

Re: The Football Chat Thread : Tue Feb 07, 2012 7:30 pm
Liverpool need to get rid of Dalgleish and this Comoli fellow. Their axis of evil is ruining the club. As an Everton fan I'll admit I always borderline hated Liverpool for obvious reasons, but I also had a nagging and begrudging respect for the way the club went about it's business.

Fast forward to the here and now and you have a club so entrenched in a bitter mindset, the eternal victim mentality and their belief they can do no wrong. You have a man found guilty of racially abusing another player and rather than discipline him, they treat him like a hero. The reception for Luis the racist was embarassing. The way the club handled the whole situation was cringeworthy and totally misjudged, sending the wrong message to their fans. Comoli lied and conspired to discredit Evra and Dalgleish just blindly ignored the facts of the incident and continues to claim he's been wronged. You have the club's fans rallying behind a racist and the men in suits who hide him.

The hero returns with another non-scoring and ineffectual performance. The kick on Parker was a clear red card and only a fear of the reaction from Dalgleish stopped the ref handing him another well deserved ban. Has there ever been a more deprived character in English football than Suarez? I really can't see why any Liverpool fan would want him at their club.
