  .....So United's mighty treble-winning side of 98/99 aren't actually that mighty, because they were up against teams in a post-World Cup slump??....

What rubbish.....this season's Premier League was awful....United thoroughly deserved their title win, but there was never a serious challenger to them....The standard throughout was rubbish and I don't think there is a single United fan who will look back on this present United team with the same fondness they do the sides from other successful eras like '94, '96, '99 or the Ronaldo years.

The standard was poor, but did you see any of the other leagues in Europe? France, Germany and Italy all had new winners that weren't expected at the start of the season. La Liga wasn't so strong throughout IMO, whilst the English league had five strong sides vying for the league at one point, but all fell off for varying reasons.

As for the post-world cup hangover; of course it's a legitimate reason. Chelsea's double winning side never lost any massive contributors, but players like Drogba and Lampard had massive drops in their consistency. They picked back up towards the end of the season, but people will just say 'oh they were so gash the league was gash'. If you look around the league, some of the regular top performers (Rooney, Gerrard, Drogba, Lampard, Torres, Fabregas, Essien) all had poor seasons by recent standards, IMO that's largely down to the hangover of a major international tournament (in Essien's case it's more to do with injuries).

IMO, the league's drop in standard was no bigger a drop than the drops in German, Italian, French and Spanish football, but people don't look at the full image. The league should be back to better standards next year IMO, Liverpool, United, Chelsea, City, Spurs and Arsenal will all be spending the big bucks, whilst the gap between mid-table and relegation become larger next season, IMO.

To be honest I think it's remarkable that Man Utd won the league and made the CL Final. I really don't see where all this quality is in the Man Utd team that everyone talks about. I honestly thought Man Utd would finish 3rd this season and do nothing in europe.

I think the major quality that United showed this season was in prevailing even when they didn't particularly deserve to. They just refused to lose.

But the quality play has been largely absent.

It's been a very poor couple of years in the PL.

Erm i'm not a Manchester United fan that obviousl means I am seeing things far more impartially than you are.
Barca's second goal was a keeping howler-So a gift.
Barca's third goal was a stupid mistake in a defence playing a one-two inside their own box-So a gift.
Those are FACTS.

Answer me this question.
If the keeper saves number 2 and the defence clear the ball instead of pratting about with it for number 3 how many goals would Barca have scored?

1) They aren't facts, you are a mug if you believe your opinion is factual.

2) You owe Messi some praise for the second, VDS was caught out but it was a sweet hit that was early. If he taken an extra touch and shaped to shoot, VDS would've been able to adjust his feet and make the save. Sometimes special players don't get praise for what they do because they do it regularly, this is another example, it was sheer quality from Messi.

3) Barca forced United to make the mistake, if you think that's 'stupid', that's your opinion, not fact. But the finish, again, you refuse to praise, which was the best goal of the game and a stunning finish. Barca were top class and were creating chances at will. People will defend United with the usual cliches and and straw-clutching, but it will end up fruitless.

Wooosh.
A bloke from Hull who watched the final as a neutral (Hull City as the closet thing I have to a favourite football team) or a bloke from Warrington who I would assume is a Liverpool/Everton fan.
Hmm who would be looking at this impartially
