Hiddink
Morinhio (sp) ...although , as a human being, thoroughly despicable
Hodgson
in no particular order

as I've said earlier in this thread, Twitcher has been in management for 30 years, has won one pot, and that's it
He's managed Spurs (a big sized club) and that's it. I don't get the clamour for him to be the England manager. HE'S DONE NEXT TO NOTHING, yet the hype is like a tsunami.

If he was that good, he'd have managed at a top level before 2009 (or so). Yet, all he's bben, is a fire-fighter, in the mould of Dave Bassett, Colin nice person etc.

His cv is thinner than Lena Zavaroni

So what has Mourinho done to deserve you labelling him as a thoroughly despicable human being?

Better managers than Harry currently in the Premier League, who deserve consideration for the England job over him, (but don't fit the media's 'people's choice' criteria)

Wenger, Moyes, Hodgson, O'Neill.....

Also, the out of work Benitez would be a far better choice than Redknapp.

Ultimately, the media has gone back to being obsessed with having an Englishman back in charge, a ploy which has always served us so well....

Sorry to blow your idea of divinity for Saint Jose of Porto, LGJM, but you only have to look at his tenure of Real Madrid, gouging assistants eyes, denial of OBVIOUS foul play, being the tip of the ice-berg.

Jose, a winner, yes, but as a person, nah

yeah,good post

as a Spurs fan I hope he stays at WHL - he is the right person for that job and I believe he would miss the daily routine of club football - I really hope he doesn't take the national job - we need him, England certainly doesn't !

regarding qualifications ? yes, what has he actually done in football management ? not a lot really but for some reason he is the 'peoples choice' - he has something about him and maybe the FA have had enough of candidates lacking personality or at least some semblance of charisma ? Unfortunately this knee-jerk reaction resulted in the appointment of Keegan who was well out of his depth.

Hiddink or Moyes or maybe Curbishley as possibles for me though I would personally love to see Hoddle back in charge.

maybe Souness as an outsider ?

Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

Lefty, you are 100% correct in what you say about Redknapp. However, Terry Venables, arguably one of England's best managers over the past thirty years (second only to Robson for mine), won only a couple of pots during the whole of his career.

One of England's best managers??.....Took over from probably the most unpopular England manager of all time, never had to qualify for a major championship, had home advantage for his only tournament, Venables was in a no-lose situation.

Despite all this, during that tournament he conjured 2 good displays from 5, was lucky to make the semis, luck went against him, and that was that.

He then, cleverly, got out before he would have been exposed as being no better than any of his contemporaries....Its a trait he has displayed several times and one which obviously keeps him in the media's favour.

Personally, he was no better than Hoddle and inferior to Erikkson.

agreed but does it actually matter ?

should it be a pre requisite that you have a cabinet full of trophies to prove you are a good manager ?

also,I think we all misuse the term 'manager' when we really mean 'coach' or vice versa.

ideally having a good coach and good man-manager is the key IMO - so who has been the best qualified in both fields ? Probably Robson who won things and was a respected coach as well as a respected man-manager ?
Hoddle,Eriksson & Capello were/are fine coaches but seemingly not particularly respected by the players whereas Keegan was liked by his team as being one of the lads but maybe lacking in coaching ability at the highest level ?
I feel someone like Curbishley might fit the bill, along with Arsene maybe ?

ok,shoot me down !
