Now, I'm sorry, but if a Portuguese club can achieve those kinds of profits in the market, WTF are English clubs playing at? You look at their team now, and they have £50m worth of talent in Hulk and Falcao, then you see their defence and that's worth a fair amount, they are an immense club, and they're even making profit from non-playing staff now.

Porto are in a strong financial position because there are clubs out there prepared to pay over the odds for its players.
If English (and to a lesser degree Spanish and Italian) clubs retreated away from the transfer market and Fantasy Football squad-building, some of the smaller European leagues who rely on transfer income to survive would be in real trouble IMO.
