Not having a laugh, but you've just completely described Ashley Young. Downing has a good game, every week. Young has 1 fantastic game out of every 3 and is average the rest.

I like Downing as a player, anything up to about £15mil I think would be a good buy. But I also think Ashley Young is vastly overrated, and to get him at a "Knock down" price of about £16mil worries me to think what people would have paid otherwise.

So Young only performs in 1 out of 3 and Downing every week? yet they both scored 7 goals last season but Young had 3 more assists 10-7 - if that's performing 1 every 3 games imagine if United get him as firing every game, he'd be lethal. Downing's an average player with little pace and limited ability when taking players on and if Liverpool are willing to pay upwards of £20 million for him they need their heads testing.

The last I heard on Downing was Villa weren't wanting to sell. Give me N'Zogbia over Downing any day.

Agree exactly. Would be underwhelmed if Downing ended up at Newcastle TBH.

Dalglish's signings are very reminiscent of those he made in the summer of '87, just after his ageing side had been stuffed in the title race by Everton.

That time he responded by buying some classy players in Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge and Houghton, all British based and all helped them to an overwhelming title triumph the following year.

However, 20 odd years on, somebody needs to tell Kenny that times have changed, and buying overpriced British players isn't the surefire recipe it was back then.

I can certainly see the logic in what he is doing (Minimum settling in period - instant results), but these players he is getting now, just might not be up to the job that is required.

N'Zogbia to still be at Latics come start of the season? I'm thinking a QPR, Norwich, Swansea relegation treble with Latics to stay up should they get into trouble and thus provide a nice price.
Wasn't sure about QPR but today's signings on top of Warnock have swung it.
