The fact that this Patriots team made it to the SB sums up how poor the AFC has been this season IMO. I would take any of the 4 final teams in the NFC to have beaten them.
But still, it came down to the final minutes and a couple of big plays either way. The way some people have been talking, and some of the early media write ups I've seen, its about the end of an era, Brady not the player he was, Patriots disappointing etc, but this was a tight game that could have gone either way it's not like the Patriots got blasted off the park.
Basically it came down to the final 4 minutes and one big play that the Patriots didn't make...and one big play that the Giants did. The Giants deserve the win because of that but it could easily have gone the other way and then people would be talking about the Patriots being one of the greatest dynasties in history, asking this morning whether Brady was the greatest of all time.
If the NFC teams were so dominant over a weak AFC why didn't we get a 30 or 40 point thumping like the Redskins, 49ers or Cowboys used to dish out in the 80s and 90s!
Before the playoffs started I would have said the Superbowl was going to be Ravens v whoever won out of Packers v Saints. This year a lot of teams seemed to lose form in the postseason, the exceptions being the Giants and 49ers. I think the Ravens are a better team than the Patriots and they will be kicking themselves especially with an ageing side now as this was a great opportunity missed.
There's a bit of changing of the guard, I reckon next year the Packers and Saints are still going to be the teams to beat, with the 49ers, Lions and Giants as the other NFC contenders. The AFC could be more unpredictable, the Texans and Bills are emerging, the Steelers are declining, Ravens and Patriots might be approaching a downturn. Maybe the Chargers might do something next year.
