The Reds currently occupy a smaller ground than us and are watched by smaller average crowds. Big club, my booty, as a well-known Scouser might say.

Interesting.

All depends on how we spend the cash now. It's a stupid amount of money but like I've said previously, he was worth more than that to us.

Nobody knew for sure if that would be good value but it certainly turned out that way.

To be fair, Rooney's body of work at that point included lots of top flight appearances and one international tournament in which he was a star. At this point Carroll has half a season in the premiership and a comical performance for England (although admittedly, that wasn't his fault entirely).

On that basis it isn't strange at all.
