I agree with Manning the 49ers would have been in great shape to win the SuperBowl. I'm surprised he chose Denver.
I'm not sure what to think tbh. Manning has always been one of my favourite non Bronco players and I would have been over the moon at the thought of him joining Denver in the past, but when he first went free agent after breaking from the Colts I thought he would be a bad and overexpensive option for anyone that picked him up.
However after reading all the coverage about the Manning transfer in american websites I have come more onside with the idea and am now quite looking forwards to seeing him at the Broncos. I was a big Tim Tebow fan and I steadfastly defended him against the people that said he wasn't an NFL quarterback but now I'm allowing myself to take the blinkers off I can see that Denver had to do everything the hard way and actually have quite a handy side emerging if they had a decent quality QB.
I reckon the Broncos will go from 8-8 to about 10-6 next year and should win the AFC West. These veteran QB deals have done well before, Brett Favre was close to taking the Vikings to the Superbowl and an ageing Kurt Warner got Arizona there.
If Manning had gone to the 49ers I think the rest of the NFL would have got very worried. With him going to Denver they won't be exactly expecting the Broncos to be hot favourites but they will probably see Denver as a team that will be in the postseason and probably will take some thinking about for whoever plays them in the playoffs. Still I reckon AFC conference championship game would be as good as it could get for Denver.
