Indeed, and I have a feeling the size of the squad is part of the problem, there's too much chopping and changing going on.
McCall's biggest problem is he doesn't know his best side, which is a crying shame, as the 1800 who were at Bury on Tuesday seemed to. To still be playing Matt Clarke is a tragedy, and a very unfair scenario for Mark Bower (who is an extremely competent centre-half) to have been in. I hope he prospers at Luton. If O'Brien is back tomorrow (which the T&A suggests he is) then it must be Rehman and Lee. Matt Clarke is one of the shakiest defenders I've seen play in the claret and amber.
He also doesn't seem to have a plan B. The long ball game is terrible, and not how we should be playing in the slighest. When you look at our midfield (arguably the best in the division when you consider Colbeck - McLaren - Law/Furman - Jones), its disappointing to see us completely bypass it and see Clarke and Lee punting it onto Conlon's head for 90 minutes. The last 15 minutes at Bury were far more encouraging, we got it on the floor and Colbeck looked dangerous, and Boulding was finally having his strengths being played to - the ball on the floor where he can take defenders on.
McCall's tactical decisions are shocking, who in this world would have played Law wide left, with Colbeck sat on the bench. Furthermore to have Thorne and Boulding sat there festering and to put Daley up top - bemusing to say the least.
