Ferdinand had ZERO chance of getting off with the offence. His appeal made him available for the semi when he should have been sitting out a ban. The ban was as blatantly frivolous as you can get. They've now appealed against that the additional ban, which is just another waste of time. It's said that Fergie is backing this appeal as Ferdinand wouldn't play in the CCF anyway, so he won't really be missing anything if he does get an extra game.
It would serve them right if they get an extra 3 matches on top of the existing 4 matches, but I doubt the option is open.
I agree with the basis of United's argument though. There will be many incidents similar to Ferdinand's which don't receive any punishment whatsoever. It has to be asked why all incidents that are captured aren't taken further, rather than a random selection. But that isn't a reason for United to appeal their ban.
