I thought Carole's Legacy looked to be labouring a long way out, the winner jumped and travelled brilliantly. Carole's Legacy stayed on but that was about it, never looked like producing a winning run. The other horse was receiving 5lb and the ground does look quite sticky.

What a storming run from Somersby, I thought he was gonna get it.

AP put a few aggressive jumps in, which is probably what won it. He had to give him an all-mighty kick up the backside and just held on. Having said that, he did decide to commit a bit soon in the conditions, which gave a big tanking horse like Somersby a chance. He acknowledged that after the race though.

Wasn't as fluent as usual, but the Nicholls horses can be slightly below their best during January - apparently he gives his horses the flu jab at the start of January.

Started to get a bit nervy during running, when Master Minded went from 1.5 to 2.0. Somersby dropped from 9.5 to 3.4, even shorter going for the line.

I had £25ew on Sparrows Hill this afty at 18-1
It just won in a photo finish.

Also had £50 on Sparky May at 7's. Very impressive, had the race sown up a long way from home.

A few losers later on but finished nicely up on the day.
