I'm not convinced that Terry shouldve had the captaincy taken off him or that Rio is the best replacement, but what I will say is that I am very impressed with Capellos handling of the situation.

- Capello, I believe, made his own decision, which he believes is the best for the team
- He had his vice captain, and has simply promoted him. He has faith in his original decision

Can't argue with that. I'd also agree that Rio isn't the man take the armband off him. I would personally have given it to Rooney or Gerrard with slight preference for the former due to his form so far this season.

I always believe that your captain should be a man who leads by example on the field so Terry was always on to a winner there. His indiscretion off the field made his job pretty untenable to be fair and he's possibly created a situation that could cost the squad it's harmony. Harmony doesn't win you trophies but without it, England don't stand a chance as far as I'm concerned.

FWIW I would've gone Gerrard too, behind Terry.

Although Rio has baggage it's how you conduct yourself as England captain that matters. Terry had the armband and his actions meant there would always be a media circus around him for months to come possibly affecting the world cup.

It's the right decision by Capello to take it away from Terry and give it to Rio imo. Oh and there is no club bias in that, just my opinion.

Let's just hope the drug testing unit don't make an appointment before the World Cup.

Two more rumours I've just heard about Terry. If one of them is true he won't be going to the world cup, captain or not.

As has been said already, non of the major candidates are without past indiscretions. As much as I dislike him, and as much as it pains me to say it as a LFC fan i'dve given it to Lampard, he does the job well for Chelsea and Gerrard plays better for England without the pressure of the Captaincy. Rio isn't consistent enough fitness wise and this can translate into form also as we have seen with the likes of Gerrard this season too.

So it was ok for JT to go out of his way to make sure his indiscretions didn't become public? That makes him no better than the press, non?

I don't have a problem with Terry trying to keep a lid on a story like this. I don't think Terry will have very much to process of keeping the stories out of print, he'll just approve of whatever his legal advisers feel they can do to stop the stories from coming out.

To expand on what I mean, the press deliberately went out of their way to ensnare JT's dad with the drug story. From the details I've read, the journalists went into his dad's local, befriended him, then asked if he knew where they could get some drugs. His father got them the phone number of a drug dealer. To me if his father was an international drug dealer it would barely be a story, but to set out to get him for that is pathetic.

The story about his mum. TBH I haven't even bothered to find out of the details of that. I just don't care what went on. But going after his parents is clearly out of order to me.

The story about JT taking £10k to show some businessmen around our training ground. IMO if some rich mug wants to give someone ten grand to look around our training ground then anyone should take the mug's money. But the press did that to JT and made a scandal out of it. The problem I have with this is that the person who set up this deal told the "businessmen" that they could arrange similar trips at Old Trafford and Liverpool. If that's true, why did this story begin and end with John Terry?

This story about JT screwing Bridge's ex gf. How has this got released? Most of the sex scandals involving footballers are made public because the slapper kisses and tells. But that's not the case here. She didn't make this public, Bridge didn't and JT didn't. So how has this become a public story?

Get those toys back in the pram. Certain parts of the media have gone out of their way? They reported on a story that is absolute dynamite. The sheer arrogance of Terry to think he could get a gagging order out on them to save his booty and his captaincy is astonishing. Did the media tell Terry to roger his mates Mrs? Or was he been a naughty boy who deserved to be pulled up for cheating on his wife?

Not sure Rio is the right choice but the position was untenable for Terry.

I'm not talking about this specific incident. I was refering to the other stories I highlighted in my previous post.

Rio the right choice? It's fitting that he's presently serving a ban for smacking someone of the ball.
