In 1935 The Dragon Slayers as they were known defeated Canterbury bulldogs 91-6, which is still the biggest win in the Club's History. In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911. References were found at the time to district teams being called 'The Saints'.the perfect 11
Having just watched the first half of the Bolivia v Argentina game and the word that springs to mind is corruption.
Forget altitude, forget the bobbly pitch, the poor defending seems almost too deliberate. I've lost count of the amount of times Argentinian defenders have ran past the ball to allow the attacker to waltz past them. The Bolivian team wouldn't beat the likes of Everton or Aston Villa, they are pants. The third goal was the worst, Argentina gave the ball away and half their players stood still and walked back having a joke with each other.
1-0 with a goal from a corner I could understand, but 6-1 with behaviour like that from Argentina makes me doubt their integrity.
I watched the first half and Bolivia absolutely tore them apart, the goal you mentioned just before halftime was woeful defending but also quality counter attacking.
England were okay last night and did enough for the win, which is all that counts in qualifying.

The 'altitude advantage' issue raises it's head again. Bolivia are 2nd bottom of the South America qualifying group. They have conceded 5 goals away from home twice in the campaign so far and then go stick 6 past an Argentina side 50 places above themselves in the FIFA rankings
I was impressed with the England performance, I think there were very good signs from the midfield linking together and the Rooney and Gerrard combo was quite encouraging, seems to e a confidence and happiness in the camp, all bodes well for 2010.
You must be easily pleased then. The only good thing about it was the result. Be honest, name someone that played well. My Man of the Match was the ref.
For about ten minutes I thought we weren't going to win the World Cup after all, that Capello was another useless foreigner and we needed an Englishman in charge who has the passion for the job, and could get the lads motivated , because we invented the game and should always beat teams like Ukraine.
I was wrong to fear that though, proved when our brave, glorious leader JT stepped up to see us home, they might as well give us the trophy now.
Thats right folks.....that side that struggles to sneak past Ukraine with the combined brilliance of Glen Johnson, David James and Peter Crouch out there are going to win the World Cup.
