2000 Guineas Advice

Makfi @ 33/1 NRNB (Stan James) - The key to this bet is the Non-Runner-No-Bet. He's not a confirmed runner at this stage and coming from a top French stable who rarely have runners in the UK it would be silly to back him under Ante-Post conditions. He won easily last time out against a decent enough field in one of the main French Guineas trials the Prix Fontainbleu at Maisons-Lafitte. This will be only his third run having won a Fontainbleu maiden at 7f last year. He'll be tackling a mile for the first time and fast ground also but the going didn't inconvenience his sire Dubawi and should be run in the big one he's likely to have the services of Christophe Lemaire - IMO the best flat jockey riding at the moment.

2pts Win, 1pt Place

Nice one mate!

Al Zir @ 14/1 (Coral) - There's been some money for this horse in recent days and it's not hard to see why given how well he's been working in recent weeks. He looked potentially top class on debut on the July course at Newmarket and subsequently followed up again over 7f at Doncaster in a conditions race. He completed his 2yo campaign with a good third to today's favourite St Nicholas Abbey on rain-softened ground at Doncaster over a mile in the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy. He'll be far more at home on the likely prevailing softer ground on Saturday particularly given his US-breeding (sire Medaglia D'Oro was a Grade 1 winner at 10f and is sire of top filly Rachel Alexandra amongst others). He looks potentially top class and with the wet winter we've had in Europe the fact that he's spent the past 6 months in Dubai may well benefit him and his stablemates (as seen by the runs of Ameer, Chabal and Claremont in recent weeks).

3pts Win, 1pt Place @ 14/1

Derby are a very decent price to beat a Cardiff reserve side as Dave Jones rests his key players before the play offs.

Derby have had a crap season but will want to finish well for their 28000 odd fans who have turned up week in week out.

1000 Guineas

Nurture - The main focus in this race in recent weeks seems to have been on the eclipse of French filly Special Duty at Maisons-Lafitte on her seasonal debut. With most of the value having gone at the head of the market and some pretty major doubts surounding the leading contenders - Special Duty (will she stay?), Music Show (stamina?), Seta (ground?), Rumoush (trip too short?) etc. and the recent gamble on Pollenator has led me towards the second of trainer Ralph Beckett's two runners. Although stable jockey Jim Crowley rejects her there are still plenty of reasons to get involved with this potentially decent filly. She contested the Montrose Fillies Stakes over Sunday's course and distance last October in which she was beaten a head by Henry Cecil's Timepiece (unlucky in running when beaten by Rumoush in the Fielden Stakes on her return) with Clarietta 4 1/2 lengths back in third. Clarietta had previously been beaten 4 1/4 lengths by fellow Guineas rival Pollenator (currently 8/1) whilst the fourth placed Marie De Medici has had two starts thus far this season - most notably when finishing third in the previously mentioned Fielden Stakes to Rumoush (7/1 for this) and there's no reason why Nurture should be 8-10 times bigger than the two who on certain lines of form you could say that she holds. Nurture is used to big fields having previously raced against the colts in a sales race at The Curragh - in which she finished third of the nineteen runners beaten just a quarter of a length. She seems to have sneaked under the radar in this and providing she's trained on for her new trainer she is of definite each-way interest.

Advice: Nurture @ 50/1 2pts Win, 1pt Place (Victor Chandler)

Got 40/1 this morning

Lets have a Guineas double :)

14:40 Newmarket

Reve De Nuit - Impressed with the way this horse stayed on at Doncaster last time out and now tries the 12f trip for the first time. The overnight rain at Newmarket will help this horse and he's back down to the 88 mark that he won off at Southwell on the AW last time out. He had good form in France on turf and I felt he was well handicapped off 88 when he came over, the same may well be true again and any more rain will definitely help his cause.

Congratulations - great tipping.

Sadly, due to RL commitments, I didn't look at the racing. :(

A mixed bag on the Rugby yesterday.

Missed the start of the Bradford game due to being out promoting the Dons in the morning. Backed the Bulls (-12) but wished I hadn't!

Recovered the position partially on Harlequins (+8) and improved it with the days biggest bet on Warrington (-20) but then back to sqare one with Leeds (-18).

Oh well, three more to go at today. :)

Kicked off with Castleford -2 @ 10/11 but only for medium stakes (not exactly the most confident pick).
