Oh yeah I forgot Newcastle are such a good side it could not possibly happen. It was only a day or so ago you were saying how he would not leave as he has everything he wants and that the club would not sell even for big money and that you would challenge for the top 6 before too long.

24 hrs later and he has put in a transfer request and you have let him go, does not sound like a club with any ambition to me. How much will be re-invested back into the side?

Have you watched us play this season or are you basing that on nothing? What's changed between what I said then to now, barring Carroll leaving, that suddenly makes us possibles to go down? We've sold one player, not our entire side. The point still stands about us being a couple of decent windows away from challenging for the top 6, it just means we need to add another striker to our squad.

I didn't think we'd sell Carroll but like I said earlier, not for one minute did I believe anyone would bid £35m+ for him. He's taken the chance to triple his wages, fair play to him.

Are Man Utd not ambitious because they sold Ronaldo? How many other clubs would have turned down £23m for Carroll, let alone £35m?

I don't know how much will be reinvested, we'll have to wait until the end of August and possibly beyond to find out.

Sunderland newspaper quotes Carroll saying he was pushed out. Not sure how NUFC made him hand in a transfer request, but he says he did want to stay there.

You must be gutted tonight though, mate, I would be. You've just sold, in your words, the most complete number 9 in Europe IIRC, a proven Premier League goalscorer who's just coming back into form and you've replaced him with an injured front man from Newcastle who's yet to prove his worth in either Championship or Premier League and a forward from the Dutch league who's again unproven for £20 million plus, not a good day.

Chelsea must be delighted with today, they've solved two of their big problems by bringing in a world class striker/goalscorer and a defender to shore up their backline. Two really good signings, title challenge back on?

Been hearing rumours of this earlier. Not sure how either. Surely he could just tell the club that he isn't leaving/not agree terms with Liverpool?

Guess we'll find out over the coming days. I hope we didn't push him although I get the feeling we probably did.

Gutted to lose a player of his quality, yes, but when things like this happen, you see things that make you think that all the emotional attachment you have with players means very little when you see their other side. I loved Torres, I thought he was 'different', I've sung his name, I've done the bounce (although I should have known better), and I've worshiped his entire game, but it means nothing now, he shown himself to be crass, selfish and couldn't have the decency to respect the club's supporters. I came around to Torres leaving once Alonso left, I knew that was the start of the decline, but I always felt it would be something done respectfully, something mutually, but I guess I was dreaming.

I know when you read things like statistics and try to apply some sense to it, signing Carroll looks borderline idiotic, but I do feel he'll be a good player for us, he offers us everything Suarez doesn't, which is exactly what I wanted. Torres, as good as he was, wasn't a team player, he wanted the team playing his way. AC9 8) won't do this, he'll give you the same every week, hard work, physical power, a good aerial threat and a good foil for a smaller, more technical player.

Suarez will take a while to adapt, I reckon, but once we start passing the ball better, we'll start finding him in those little pockets of space so he can take those snap shots that brought him so much success at Ajax.

Still, I'm not incredibly pleased, I'm hugely disappointed in Torres, but I'm pleased at the club for the amount of bollox (some may call it lunacy) they've shown this window, they could have easily gone for a player like Elmander for the short term fix, but they threw caution to the wind and went for their man. Similarly with Suarez, they could have waited 'til the summer, they could have tried their hand around Europe but they went in with an aim and met it. They got what we wanted for Torres and they handled the situation very well.

A bit frustrated with Blackpool, I can't understand why they were so reluctant towards us, I had a funny feeling Adam would have been stupidly good for us, I can't explain why, just one of those things.

IMO it will take more than those two to get the title challenge back on track. Utd have not fired at all yet are unbeaten and Chelsea have looked mentally and physically weak. Luiz is a great player IMO though and will give you some much needed strength and pace at the back.

By the way we took a chance for £20m on a young spanish striker with a poor stike record and just sold him to you for £50m.

Point is no one player is bigger than the club. That goes for all teams.

Life and football move on. Enjoy the rest of the season.
