It's not difficult to see Liverpool's problems. They start with Rafa and end with Benitez.
HE has built the majority of this squad and has certainly been there long enough for anyone elses influence to have worn off. Liverpool are in their worst state in many a year. Torres, Reina and Gerrard are world class, Benayouin is quality, but beyond those three? Kuyt is a complete donkey, he is your typical Sheffield United player, works his backside off but hasn't got any quality about him at all. Ngog, Babel, Riera, Aquilani, Lucas, the list goes on an on. They paid £18m for a pathetic right back in Johnson so can never ever moan about not being able to spend money. They money they paid for him plus Aquilani would have bought them Villa or two truly dominant centre backs. How bad is Carragher these days? It's hillarious watching him, he's gone.
In order to win the Premier League Liverpool realistically need 2 centre backs, 2 fullbacks, two central midfielders, two wide midfielders and two strikers. Rafa has arguably the two best players in the Premier League and has used this as his get out of jail card for far too long. Why did he spend £18 on Glen Johnson when he only has ONE striker? What did he think would happen when that ponce Goldylocks got injured? Why did he spend £15m+ on an Italian midfielder who had been injured for a year? What did he think would happen when Stevie G got injured.
What happens now is Torres goes home and picks up a copy of the DVD editing software Leon Pryce is using. He gets himself a move in January or at least the end of the season. Liverpool spend the money on a couple of players, see an upturn in form and predict that 'next season is ours' again.
If Mr Benitez had even a scrap of integrity he'd resign tonight. Instead he'll hide behind the flak being aimed at the owners and rob another few months salary from the club.

No it starts with the owners and ends with the owners we spent blah blah so what it means nothing if you are selling players to buy players even Everton can buy a couple of £15M players.
