Look at the players City have signed since Hughes arrived:
Kompany
Wright Phillps
Robinho
Berti (a cheap failure)
De Jong
Bellamy
Bridge
Barry
Zabaleta
Given
Jo (not really Hughes's signing)
City will probably make another 5 or so signings (7/8 if players such as Elano, Jo and Petrov leave) in the summer window. Probably half of those will be solid rather than spectacular eg such as Lescott. The other half will probably be a higher class, not yet Kaka or Ronaldo but players such as eg Tevez & Eto'o.
Add in existing decent players such as Ireland, Hart & Onhua, plus Johnson & Bojinov if they regains full fitness and City and should have a competitive squad next season. Not yet top 4 standard but vastly better than the one that started last season. With enough consistent players to eradicate the dire away form that blighted last season.
Having established a solid base City will then have the resources to add a few really top class players in a year''s time.
At some stage over the next 12 months wont the penny drop that moving to City isnt such a bad idea for footballing reasons as well as the money?
