Oh dear. Not a pretty sight
In fairness, it's been coming. The club has grown too quickly over the past five years or so and, like it has with so many others, it's come back to bite us on the booty.
Playing in the Conference last year was great but it was obvious to anyone that came to the Nest that we were well out of our depth both on and off the field, save for a few excellent results (Torquay away and Cambridge at home to name but two).
The club tried to build a promotion-worthy team this year to get back up and performances obviously haven't justified the investment in the team (not that it would have saved us from HMRC). Last week we lost two key players to Bradford PA; James Knowles (better offer) and Andy Campbell (not been paid for 6 weeks).
The main financial backer came off the board earlier this year, only to rejoin it this week and this season and IMO, the people that were left on the board in the interim were up to the task. As for crowds, anything more than about 350 through the gate is seen as an achievement.
We'll see how it goes. I'm not hopeful but then again, I'm the pessimistic type.
