Apparently he was a WR at UMASS and was number 3. Why he still has it now i don't know, i thought recievers had to be 10-20 or 80-90.

In preseason guys who might not normally make the roster get whatever free numbers there are left before getting a proper one for the season, it's not uncommon to see RBs/WRs/DBs with numbers 1-20, or Linebackers 40-49

Did he ever actually come out in the media and say this? All I ever heard was that if his injury kept bothering him then he would retire. But I think the media just heard something and ran with it.
