Dave Clark completely missed the point whilst interviewing Ronnie Baxter after his match against Wade. He said the Premier League was "all about the atmosphere." Well, yes in a way but as Ronnie was saying each player is up there earning a living. For them to perform and to then entertain they need good order & respect and not to be booing and jeering when a player is throwing. To do this they have to clamp down on the many idiots who go to these nights. One way will be to stop switching to the crowd whilst the players are throwing. This generates more cheers, jeers & whistles than anything else.
I've said to friends whilst we've been at the MEN Arena and the Winter Gardens before that, there are loads there that are just there to get bevvied and balloon and maybe hope for a 2 second cameo on TV. Being there to watch the darts is way down the list.
An example of this was in Taylor's match where he was on 201, scored two treble 20s then as the crowd were expecting him to go for a maximum he switched (as all top darts players would) to an-odd numbered treble to leave himself on a double (treble 15 for double 8 in this case). Should've got a round of applause for great thought & throwing but it was met with bemusement in the main.
Fair play to Barney on the 9-darter. Been all over the place recently but he's shown he's still got something there.
