Right then you damn boffins you, I'm after some quirky and lesser-known footballing stories from the doldrums, stuff which 99% of people wouldn't know. Go!
And for someone to don't rate Rooney is just stupid, in fact that part of your post is completely laughable. The lad is absolute class, I've never understood why you have this opinion of Rooney and never will. Look back at some of the goals he's scored and they're world class, his work rate is superb as is his fitness rate, he's constantly up and down the field for United and his desire is second to none but the bit of your post that got me was saying his influence on a game isn't in the upper echelons is bizarre, the goals he scores and sets up for United are vital to them and have been in everything they've acheived so far. How you can say his influence isn't what it should after he's just scored two hat tricks on the run is foolish.
He's already better than most strikers in Europe now and once he finished he'll go down as one of the best ever to play the game. ATEOTD he's a forward so he'll ultimately be judged on his goal scoring and nobody can call that, he scores goals for a laugh as well as setting them up, tracking back and giving everything for his club. The lad has every aspect to his game.
A few things Dan, he's not a bad player, I just don't rate him amongst the greatest players playing the game at the moment. He wouldn't get in my World XI, he wouldn't even get on my bench; it's just preference.
I know what Rooney's strengths are, he can score goals (not as consistently as he could have though, he's always been a patchy player in regards to goals IMO), he can create goals and he does work hard, but I don't think he's a great decision maker, I don't think he has the full array of passes and I don't view him as a pure goalscorer, and by that I mean, he isn't the type of player who'll put three out of five chances away, he generally gets more chances than most but still doesn't score the most. Before you say "two hat-tricks in a row, blah blah" that's the past few weeks, we're talking years here mate.
If you were to compare him to a player like David Villa, Villa for me is a better goalscorer, he has better movement and greater speed, he's more agile and he can get into goalscoring positions from the left or middle. I'd say Rooney and Villa are equally as creative, just the creativity burden is placed on Rooney's shoulders more than Villa's, whilst I'd say Villa is greater tactically, with better understanding of movement and possession than Rooney. There's no shame in Villa being better than him, he's the best in the world IMO, but it shows the levels between the very best and Rooney. For me, Rooney needs to improve muuch more if people are to compare him to Maradona and co., as I said, I think there have been plenty of players over the past 10 years who have been better than him, and I've probably missed a few out as well, so putting him amongst the true elite is completely unjustifiable.

It's hard to judge like that though. If you put Lionel Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Pedro, Alves and co behind any Premier League striker and they would suddenly look unbelievably good.
city reduced prices to £25. Usually do for midweek cup games.
City sold all corporate tickets and seats for the Wigan game (I was corporate for that game - great it was too!). I have also heard that we have pretty much sold out for the Everton game.
However, we didn't sell-out for the Napoli game with reduced prices and a smaller capacity. I can only think it's an economic issue. Although ticket prices were £25 it's the cost of parking/travel, refreshments etc., take it closer to £50. In these times that's a lot of money. Especially when you consider we will play around 30 games this season.
I am at least happy at the fact that the c10,000 fans lost under Pearce are now back at The Etihad for leagues matches.
I would think the tram may help to increase crowds a little because of the convenience (certainly not the cost).
Did United get c33k for the first CL game they played?
Anyway, back to the BBC website to 'watch' the cricket.
City fans are still a bit like those RL fans that go to every home SL game and then skip the play offs!
The other factor that might affect attendances is the unmitigated disaster that is "MCFC Ticket Office". Everything else at city as come on leaps and bounds since the takeover with the sole exception of the ticketing operation. Buying a one off ticket for a cup game is about as enjoyable an experience as having teeth pulled without an anaesthetic (to quote Alistair Darling).
I wanted to take an Italian friend to the game last night but couldn't as I'd never bought tickets from MCFC before, which seemed odd when people had had a few weeks to get tickets.
