He does not want to open, which is why McKenzie got the nod. The absence of Graeme Smith has forced it on him.

I don't know why - he's perfect for it. Great temperament, compact technique, and scores more quickly than he's given credit for. He's the natural replacement for McKenzie.

They've said on commentary this morning he turned down the captaincy because he would have no say on the batting order. ie, the selectors/coaches said he was opening and that was that.

He has been left high and dry several times coming in no. 5 so you're right, it gives him every opportunity to occupy the crease for as long as he can.

Prince brings up his century hitting McGain's third over in test cricket for 13. He's taking an exceptional liking to the leggie's offerings, though to be fair Ponting's hardly given him a fair shot.

Just imagine if SA had won at least one toss in these 6 tests I think they may well have won both series'...

Is there a bigger whingeing, slapped-arse in world cricket than Michael Clarke at the moment??? (Obviously Andrew Symonds would win that award if he were still playing!!) He's the typical aussie cricketer - always gobbing off to the opposition and having digs at batsmen when in the field but always the first to moan and skrike about it when someone has the nerve to have a go back at him...I know the South Africans are no angels but come on Clarke - if you're going to give out the verbals then you should be man enough to take em when they are given back..
