Not long till the season starts for real. I can't see the Cubs making any noise this year, hopefully get to see some production from the farm system. Alot of big names have left the NL central, going to make for an interesting year.

ITS BAAACK!

Cards/Marlins is on tonight at 00:30 on ESPN America and also MLB.TV

I hope the Marlins win their first game, so do the owners after splashing that money.

Yep, I'll be tuning in tonight cheering on the Marlins. Hope they can do us a favour before they visit us tomorrow.

Also I'm very pleased that we've been able to get a win for the little guys by keeping hold of Joey Votto even if we've paid over the odds a bit. Given the amount of money that's flooding into the game with the TV deals it might prove to be a bit of a bargain in the long run. Hopefully we can keep hold of Jay Bruce when he comes up for grabs.

Despite losing our closer I'm quietly confident that we can get the division title this year and although I'm not wishing for injuries I'm keen to see Chapman go into the rotation asap.

I think it will be a close race. I count us and the Pirates out of it, although I think we will surprise a few to be honest. I'd like to see Brett Jackson get called up sometime during the season and like our young players Castro, Barney, lahair etc. we won't really kick on until we get Soriano and his $19,000,000 salary off the books. I have faith in Theo doing with us what he did to the Red Sox and finally breaking the curse of the billy goat. I fancy the Brewers again for the division, I want to say St Louis but that all depends on how Wainwright is on his return and how long Carpenter is on the DL.

1 - Milwaukee
2 - St Louis
3 - Cincy
4 - Chicago Cubs
5 - Pirates
6 - Astros

I think losing Madson was a big loss for the Reds, Marshall will do great for you but put's you an arm down in the pen.

Not sold on the Brewers without Fielder after seeing the stats for Ramirez, over the past three seasons, on the road (.246) and at Miller Park (.270) where six of his homers from last season at Wrigley (.329) wouldn't have left Miller Park. I'm not sure how that will play out but he has defensive frailties which don't read too good either. Not insurmountable granted but I think it's enough for me to believe we're starting on an equal footing with the other preseason favourites.

Matt Latos debut today :) Caught the post-seventh innings stretch action from Tropicana last night and that was pretty good. Desmond Jennings rattling up the fantasy league points for me. Lost Farnsworth to the DL but other than that had a good start on the old pitching from Cueto, Wandy Rodriguez and Jamie Garcia. Top bananas.

Think I may start to watch some MLB this year. I don't really follow it, nor do I have a team, but since I am getting ESPN, I may aswell give it a go. I know a lot of people who really enjoy it and they have told me to try it.

Hope you enjoy it. I was never really a fan until I went over there to work. Went to a couple of games in Cincinnati and thought it was okay. It wasn't until I started to watch it about a month later when I was in Myrtle Beach that I got into the game as I started to learn about it. Having grown up loving the stats of cricket, baseball was perfect down to stats for left-handed batters (it's so much further on now it makes our analysis look prehistoric). It's perfectly paced for television and having a beer too (sports bar stuff). That was twenty years ago and I lost touch for a few years in the 90s when there was no internet (I used to occasionally buy USA Today to find out results and did tune in a few times to the Armed Forces Radio Network to try to catch a game). Last few years I've had MLB and it's been great watching whenever I wanted to watch.

If any of you are really into the game I can highly recommend Baseball by Ken Burns. It's a multi episode documentary that tells you pretty much everything you need to know about baseball up until the steroid era. It's a fascinating sporting documentary full of cultural insight and a real grasp of the beauty in a game which is competitive down to the most minute detail. If you love baseball too it's a must see. Lovefilm have it for rental if you use them. Don't know about Netflix sorry. Also if you go to the bay where pirates are to rent things you can find it there.

Two games into the season, two blown saves from Carlos Marmol. It's going to be a looooong season on the North side.
