Keighley Cougars’ goal-kicking scrum half Danny Jones became the first player from the club since 2001 to land ten goals in a match when hit landed ten conversions from as many attempts in last Sunday’s 60-28 Co-operative Championship One win over London Skolars.
The last player to achieve that scoring feat for the Cougars was Martin Wood who booted ten goals in a 60-20 win over Barrow Raiders on 18 March 2001.
The consistent Wood had previously hit eleven goals in one match when the Cougars beat Batley 66-12 the previous month - 25 February 2001!
Barry Eaton, the Keighley Cougars Head Coach, said: “Danny has been a consistent kicker for the club this season and his contribution to the team’s performance has been very valuable.
“Every rugby team needs a quality goal kicker and we’re fortunate to have one in Danny”.
Danny said: “I was pleased to kick ten out of ten. The most difficult one was one of the first I had in the match but the rest were ones I should have been knocking over in any case”.
