Community Cougars Foundation Update : Thu Feb 11, 2010 1:44 pm
Community Cougars Foundation Blog
January 2010

Welcome to the first monthly blog. The blog will give all the information on what is being delivered in the community.
After a slow start due to the weather things have got on track with the schools coaching. Holy Family and Oakbank cluster primary schools have received coaching.
In secondary schools Oakbank, South Craven, Settle Middle, Holy Family and Settle College have all received coaching from Chris, Tom and Dean.
Unfortunately Settle middle schools year 7 boys’ team’s run in the champion schools came to an end at the Yorkshire ¼ final stage. The boys who have been coached by newly appointed Chris Baines lost 28 – 0 to a well drilled St Wilfreds school from Wakefield.
On a positive note the primary schools from the Holy family cluster had their annual tag rugby tournament which was a great success with all details available on the clubs website.
In regards to the schools work, exciting new developments have seen the Community Cougars Foundations work spread across the boarder into Lancashire. The new developments will see Rugby League being delivered into West Craven high school.
Negotiations are on going but will see the Foundation deliver both Boys and Girls Rugby within the High school and also the cluster of seven primary feeder schools.
This project will see players making the step into amateur Rugby League with West Craven Warriors. The Warriors are a very pro active amateur club and the Foundation are hoping to support them and all amateur clubs anyway they can.
As the new season approaches the Cougars are looking to encourage juniors to take up their fantastic season ticket offer. Leeds Trinity and All Saints student Paula Dransfield has been working hard with Freddie Cougar promoting the junior season ticket competition. Freddie, Paula and the Cougar staff have delivered interactive assemblies to primary schools across the district promoting the clubs grand final win and fielding questions from the young pupils in the schools.
Community Cougars Foundations scheme Sporting Chance has gone from strength to strength. The young people on Sporting Chance have been working hard in support of the Jam Fund. For information on this charity please visit the website www.jamfund.co.uk
Jonny Presley, who is in charge of Sporting Chance, has also been busy working on a new project for the Sporting Chance team which will give them a big insight into their future work, so watch this space for a big announcement coming soon.

On the 29th January Freddie along with Chris Baines, Jonny Presley and Brendon Rawlins visited the Alhambra theatre in Bradford to watch Jack and the Beanstalk.
The visit was part of a trip organised by Bradford Council for the children across the Bradford district. While they were there Freddie and the team signed autographs, posed for pictures and handed out posters to the young people who attended.
During December the community team expanded their horizons by taking part in a ‘Reading Matters’ course. The course was run by Rachel Kelly of the charity ‘Reading Matters’
The course will see the community team working with local schools to improve the children’s reading age. Keep checking the clubs website for more details.

If you require any more details please contact the Community Cougars Foundation on 01535 606044.
