money raising : Sun Sep 05, 2010 11:23 pm
If we have a hardcore fan base of around 700, even if half of us got a prize donation from a local business and auctioned the donations, had a big night at cougar park with the press (kly news) covering the event with a double spread in the paper and named each business that donated. If each prize averaged only 20 pounds that would be 7,000 pounds plus bar takings. With biger donations maybe 15,000 pounds surely this would help the club and maybe we might get a few more sponsers out of the event

And if one lot was sold every 3 minutes it would take 17 and a half hours to get rid of all 350 of them.

It's a nice enough concept but needs a little refining.

Stop being negative, a good auctioner sells 100 items per hour, what about a giant sponserd walk, on the canal to skipton and back 5-10 or 20 miles, this whould bring money-in from people outside the club,

You can only do so much sponsoring, or gambling (raffles). People don't want to be pestered into buying this that and the other as they enter the ground. In fact some are put off by it.

What people will happily spend there money on is paying to see a good product on the field, a good pint, or good food.

You risk giving regular supporters raffle fatigue or sponsor fatigue.

That's a good point Mike.

The best thing we can do as fans is to encourage others to come to games.

If everyone who's a regular brought someone else with them to a game revenues would increase.

Or here's an idea, allocate a couple of games where a season ticket holder can bring a friend for nowt. 1 game where it's nailed on we'd stuff someone like London Skolars and a game like say Oldham, who bring a decent amount of fans and create a decent atmosphere.

I find it very annoying when you don't buy a half time ticket that you get tutted at. Programme, cross bar things, sweets that a fiver before you get in the bar.

Peeps just remember that the sellers etc are giving thier time and effort - and it is hard work - missing a lot of the game they love, so we raise the funds we do.

I THINK THAT MR FAWCETT HAS DROPPED A REAL CLANGER , IF HELEN IS BEING MADE REDUNDANT. I FOR ONE HAVE A LOT OF TIME FOR HELEN , SHE HAS BEEN A REAL WORKHORSE FOR THE COUGARS CAUSE , AND HER LEAVING THE CLUB IS SENDING OUT ALL THE WRONG SIGNALS ESPECIALLY TO US SPONSORS WHO PUMP OUR HARD EARNED MONEY INTO THE CLUB. IT`S NOT ALWAYS THE PRODUCT THAT YOU BUY INTO WHEN YOU SPONSOR A CLUB . IT`S OFTEN A CASE OF THE PERSON SELLING YOU THE "VISION" ............... I FOR ONE, BELIEVE YOU SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT PEOPLE RUNNING THE CLUB AND IN MY OPINION YOU HAVE JUST DESPATCHED A "GUD UN". GOOD LUCK HELEN WHEREVER YOU END UP

I don't want to see any good people leave the club especially Helen. :(

Unfortunately it appears the club can no longer afford a GM hence why the position (and legally it's the position, not the person) is being made redundant.

This must have been a really difficult decision for Gary and the Board to make.

What were the alternatives?

Cut back on the playing/coaching staff? Maybe?

Take on debt? Unwise in the current financial climate.

If there is only one minute positive from all this it is that at least we know we have a board that is prepared to make big, difficult, and potentially divisive decisions in order to protect the long term future of the club. Which is something we haven't had in the past.

I wish all those who've lost their jobs all the best.
