Me too ..love my trips over to Fylde..and the Panthers lot are a great bunch of supporters.

Was having a long (and remarkably intelligent conversation for us) with Barry 'Bazza' Turnbull (Jamie Stephensons Grandpa) whilst stood in the pouring rain waiting for the u18s to kick off at Whitehaven last week and one of the things we agreed on was there will reach a time in a year /eighteen months when the economic crisis will really hit the game at the lower levels . And that one of the major upshots of this will be that the wage expectations of players at our level will have to fall and the clubs will have to rely on more locally produced players and those that have ben brought up in an enviroment when they know the financial rewards will not be great . Going back to the old days of 'local lads turning out for local teams '

When this happens we think Keighley will be in a fairly strong position compared to other clubs of our stature with 7 years scholarship experience and now the 'Elite Academy' in place . Most others at our level are not even running reserve sides ...

Thoughts ???

I agree Rach.

I'd like more incentive for clubs to bring through their own talent.

There's not much in it for small clubs if they invest time and money in developing talent so Super League clubs can cherrypick the best of them before they play first team Rugby.

How many did we lose to Br*dford this season?

What about if a player under 21 leaves an amateur or semi-pro club for a super league club then that club must pay compensation if he makes it there.

Say £50k after 10 first team appearances and another £100k if he plays for England.

Really sorry to hear about Blackpool, one of my favourite away visits. How much more can lower league rugby take?

I have only been wrong once and thats because I thought I was wrong but I was wrong I was right!

Petty authoritarians aren’t man enough to challenge the actions of a person face to face; instead they incite a forum of rumour, innuendo and half truths, and impose rude sanctions to discourage those who dare question fairness.

Anon.

Yep, always enjoyed our trips to Blackpool but having said that I also enjoyed Chorley, a small but passionate group of supporters.

I was thinking along the same lines after being told recently what the wage expectations of a "top earner" at a club like Keighley might be. I have to say it surprised me. If you assume that better players in more successful clubs are on even more then we have some high earners in the lower divisions.

This is emphasised by what Barry said at one of the fans forums "a super league club tried to sign a couple of ex SL players from the Championship last season and was turned down because they could not match the wage package!"

I think that some players (and agents) expectations are way too high. It's a tough sport, and players deserve a fair wage but it's deciding what is fair and sustainable for the sport that's important. When one or two clubs start splashing the cash it drags others in.

It will be interesting to see how Hunslet and York cope in the higher division.

I couldn't agree more with these comments.

I also believe, as I have for several years, that the Championship clubs must return to the 'traditional' season and a single division if we are to survive. Promotion and relegation should also be reinstated instead of basing everything on facilities etc.

OK, it's great to have excellent facilities but facilities don't make a great team.

The problem is SKY and those at Red Hall who always believe that they have the only answers.

Roll-on the revolution!

Do you mean return to playing the game in the winter?

Also how can you have promotion and relegation in a single division?

If you actually read 666s post thoroughly and in its entirety , I think you'll find they that mean promotion and relegation between Championship and Super League ...... rather than the Franchising system in place now......

If they have promotion from Champioinship to SL, and each of those divisions play at different times of year, it's going to be a helluva long season for any promoted/relegated clubs.
I think, if we are to compete at international level, we're stuck with summer rugby. The conditions allow for more speed and skill than the old mudbaths of winter - although there were one or two highly entertaining muddy games at Cougar park last season, I'll give you that!
