Aren't they suggesting it's done in the close season?
Anything that gets more people playing sounds good to me.
RL grew out of adversity and innovation
Your points are all fair.
Even in the off season it will still be competing against Baseball, NASCAR, Basketball, Ice Hockey and MLS for an audience.
I think they'll pick up failed American Football players along the way, like Union do over there. But they'll struggle to obtain elite athletes, or get the game in to schools to develop it as a major sport. Which leads me to..

I was also told (not sure if this is true) that there are no network of amateur/semi professional American Football clubs outside of the professional teams or the college teams so what do players do once there over 23 and not good enough to play professionally.
If this is true then RL might be a good option
If a player doesn't get drafted in to the NFL there is the option of going in the fully pro Canadian Football League which has some rules that are more like rugby. I think there are minor league American football teams but they are not as widely followed as say Baseball or Ice Hockey teams are. Then of course they generally come out of college with a degree which can take them in to higher paid employment. Also with most schools having sports programs that British schools could only dream of there's also plenty of coaching opportunities.
