I'd like to see any of the team of '76 attend, It would be brilliant if they could and HAZEL could sort the lads from Kippax without any problem. BJ lives locally and Dave Jickells attends every home game; is Keith Dixon still living locally? Is George Pieniacek local (what about his goal when we beat Northern 2-0 on a frozen Sodal pitch? Charlie Birdsall - what about his try to beat Widnes (?) or was it Leigh (with Alex Murphy giving the 'two-fingered salute' to the Scrattin' Shed), when the ball bounced off the post and he followed-up to score between the posts! If the former Supporters Club Committee were asked, then I'm certain that they'd help, so what's the problem?

When the club decided to take over control of the club website and its design , the history website proved uneconomical for me to keep running on its own for the few hits it got a month and was taken down With the cost of webhosting coming down fairly rapidly I'm now in the midst of redesigning the site with some massive help on the content side from David and would welcome help from anyone else who wants to see the clubs heritage preserved in a digital format .HINT HINT From the clubs perpective I know that the current board see the clubs past as important .We are beginning to store anything historical now that comes into the clubs possession which hasn't always happened in the past and David is working tirelessly to ensure that the improved sponsors bar upstairs features the clubs past successes on its walls .There has also been some early ground work and research into an application for Heritage lottery funding for a project that will see local young people look at the history of the club and the memories of the people involved in context to the history of the town .. Keighley is very lucky in having folk like David , John Pitchford, Ann Self ,Brian Lund and Sue Dodds who over the years have helped to keep the clubs heritage alive, Carol and Maureen from the old supporters club who organised the players reunions for many a year, a task now taken by Gary Moorby and Paul Moses and the past players association not forgetting Neil Spencer and Alan Inman who have maintained fantastic cataloged archives of games on video and DVD and are happy to share them... There is lots going on ..get involved instead of whinging behind a forum alias about one dodgy wikipedia site....

There were two other near misses that I know of in addition to that semi, which was by far the biggest.When we were in the old second division, maybe 1964, we went to Hull KR, who were a top 1st division team, and lost 6 to 5 and we scored the only try. There was also a Yorkshire cup semi final against Trinity who were right at the top of the game Neil Fox, Derek Turner etc. We gave up home advantage and played the game at Odsal and lost 5 to 4. Neil Fox scored the Trinity try when he played the ball forward to himself and dived over for the games only try. That is against the rules in the present era. Keighley is a small club with a chequered history but we have had our moments.

Hi K1, I'd forgotten about the trinity match, thanks for that .... 1973 wasn't it? I seem to remember, perhaps the season before getting to the quarter finals of the Yorkshire Cup and just loosing out to Cas at Castleford. Happy days with the Floodlit Trophy, John Player Trophy, Yorkshire Cup together with the Challange Cup, lots to shout about and quite often 2 matches a week!

Hi Hazel,

Can you, or your dad, Maureen, Anne or anyone who watched Keighley in the 60's and 70's remember the 'Aspinall Special' and/or the 'Illingworth Special' when Colin Evans and Bill Aspinall used to combine (when we had a scrum within the opponents' '10') to work a move that inevitably led to a score close to, or underneath the posts? A similar move was worked later, with Sam Illingworth, which had similar results.

If anyone could give JD the details then I still believe that the move could be worked today, especailly with players such as Paul March, Sam Obst at scrum half and any of our current props.

Ok maybe I was a tad OTT in that comment , but at times it feels like some folk just complain for the hell of it ..

If the Club had 150 employees like Bradford then the Clubs Wikipedia Page might be an issue but with only 3 FT members of staff at CP (plus the six like me who work for Your Sporting Chance or the Foundation who do some bits for the club on a day to day basis but it is not their main job ) there are more pressing issues ...
