From the Cougars Foundation..Over 150 local young people took the field at Cougar Park to compete for the right to be Keighley Cougars Primary Schools Tackle Rugby Champions.
The Annual Tournament saw eight schools compete in separate boys and girls competitions , which followed on from in school training sessions delivered by the Foundation Coaching team of Sam Obst and Jeremy Crowther over the past few weeks .
Sam said ‘ We had a great afternoons rugby league that saw Settle Middle take both titles but they were pushed all the way by Oakworth Primary in the boys and Merlin Top in the girls . The standard from all the teams was exceptional and improves every year . There was some real stand out individual attacking performances and some crunching tackles going in ‘
Cougars Head Coach Jason Demetriou was on hand to present awards to all participants , whilst Obst was joined in refereeing duties by fellow Cougar Players , Michael Korkidas , Brendon Rawlins and Ben Stead.
Schools taking part were Hothfield Street , Settle , Nessfield ,Holycroft , Merlin Top , Eastwood ,Cowling and Oakworth and the Tournament is the traditional end to the Cougars Community Primary School Programme , which will begin again in September.
‘The focus for the next few weeks is now on our annual Summer Camp for young people ‘ said Sam . This will take place on the 30th of July to the 3rd of August and then the week after 6th August -10th at Cougar Park .As well as the usual Rugby / Sports Camp , we’ll be for the first time running a dance camp alongside , with the chance for participants to take part in a performance pre match at a Cougars Match
