this was the year I joined the Royal Navy but my father followed Keighley during this period

Fantastic stuff....Great game , proper scrums too and i loved rhe Keighley
shirt. That was three years before I started watching Keighley and was only
7 years old.

My Dad was 13 when this was played!

It just goes to show how much the game has progressed. With the improvements in strength and fitness, technique and tactical play you could safely assume that if you put any semi-pro team out against either one of those sides they'd probably win by at least 50 points

I was only just turned 7 when this game was played so I only have very vague memories of it. Wasn't there some kind of controversial decision or something that went against Keighley in this game? What was it?

I still have my 'Centre Stand' ticket (but can't find it at present) which cost all of 5/- (25p) or was it 7/6 (37.5p)?

Yes, 'CDC' there was - it sounded as though someone in the crowd blew a whistle on the stroke of half-time, the Keighley players thought that the ref had blown for the half and stopped. Saints simply continued to play and scored by the post - 5-0. Had it not been for that 'whistle' then we could and should have won.

Unfortunately, 'Bootsie' (Brian Jefferson) had a heavily-bandaged knee, wasn't on his usual kicking form and missed an easy penalty that would have won us the game 6-5.

A great game. One of the best.

It made it even more-difficult to swallow the defeat when we beat Saints at home, in a rearranged match, the following Tuesday evening!

I know that Huddersfield are a bit behind the times but I'm pretty sure we didn't pay in shillings at Fartown although just about like everybody else I had had a couple of pints in the pub next door so who knows

The shirt they are wearing would make a fantastic design for a
' retro supporters shirt ' .
