Keighley Cougars last night signed centre three-quarter Damien Reid.
The 25-year-old former back has joined the Cougars on a contract which will last through until the end of the 2009 season.
Reid has had long experience in the professional game having played for Castleford Tigers, Barrow Raiders, York City Knights, Hunslet Hawks, Bradford Bulls, Gateshead Thunder, Widnes Vikings, Sheffield Eagles and his last club Batley Bulldogs. He has also had loan spells with both Leeds Rhinos and St Helens during his career.
Damien has been training with the Keighley club as the club’s coaching staff ran a rule over his form.
Barry Eaton, the Keighley Cougars Head Coach, said: “Damien’s played at the highest level in the British club game so we already know that he is a very talented player.
“We’ve been in the market for such quality players as we seek to build a squad capable of challenging for not only a Co-operative Championship One play off place but also promotion to the Championship.
“His arrival at the club will increase the competition for first team places and that’s a very healthy situation in any professional Rugby League club.
“We’ve heard a great deal about Damien and he’s had a pretty lean time of it in Rugby League during the last 12 months.
“Now he’s got something to prove not only to us as a club but also to himself and we’re happy to give him that opportunity”.
Reid trained with his new club mates at CougarPark last night and will be in the running for the team to face Swinton Lions in their Championship One encounter at Cougar Park on Sunday (Kick off 3.00pm).
